Brochure homepage vs acatalog/index

I've setup my acatalog/index.html page as my main homepage with welcoming, information and advertising fragments. Problem is of course it does not reside in my domain root.

What's the best (SE friendly) way to redirect to this page from my domain root?
Currently I've just copied the acatalog/index.html page into the domain root, but I presume that creates duplicated content and SEs could presumably penalise me for that?

If I create a brochure page and then use it as my homepage I would also have to duplicate the content I need.

Ideas/thoughts please.....how do others get round this?

You could just add a line in .htaccess if you are on an apache server.

Redirect Permanent index.htm* /acatalog/index.html

Sorry - I messed that up - the second half needs the full path so it will be

Redirect Permanent index.htm* http://yourdomain.c.uk/acatalog/index.html

Still no joy - this time I get a 403 (forbidden)

Create an empty text file in notepad and save it to your desktop as index.html then upload that to your website root. That should do it.

I decided to go ahead and create a brochure home page after all - I just reworded content fragments - which may be a plus anyway.
