web setup hangs when analysing website on localhost

    Hi,
I am struggling to configure my website details & am wondering whether I am attempting the impossible as the wizard keeps hanging ( no activity for 30 mins) when analyzing Perl...
I am intending to publish the website to my own pc ( ie localhost) running XP Pro - it goes like this:
I get the network configuration wizard going
Enter the FTP account details ( localhost/ MyUser, MyPassword )
    Enter web site address ( http://localhost/ActinicTest )

Then I get the "Analyzing Web Site" progress form. This hangs on either "CGI-BIN Address" or "Perl Installation", depending upon what mood it's in.

    And nothing else happens.
Using a command prompt I can cd to C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\ActinicTest\cgi-bin and run "perl ActinicSimple.pl" and it returns successfully. I have perl 5.00502 installed.

Previously, I was running Actinic 7.0.5 (straight out of the box) and the wizard was taking 15 odd minutes to process each click of the "Next" button. I could get as far as the dialog that asks for the path to Perl & the perl extension and then it'd take at least 10 minutes to return with an error message ( it seems I was unable to get it right, although I could run the Actinic test scripts from the command window).

I have just installed the latest patch to take me up to 7.0.6.0.0.0.GBGA and now I can't even get as far as that.

Is this typical or ( hopefully) unusual?

Is it possible to install Actinic & upload to the same PC that it is installed on?

Any other help/advice would be greatly appreciated as I am supposed to be assessing Actinic's suitability and I have spent an entire day trying to get it to uplaod a website which contains one product.

    TIA,
    Graeme

Not a direct answer to your problem; but you could register on the Actinic site and use their test server and see if it's the same.

Have you checked out the Advanced User Guide? There is a section in there about installing on a local server which could be worth a glance in case you have missed something.
