ssl hosting, i think i need another ip address

i wish configure a second (site B) SSL actnic site on my IIS5 web server.

the problem is that when i checkout from (site B), the first ssl actnic site (site A) checkout appears

i have established that to configure a second ssl web site on my server i need another IP address.

i have been told that each secure site needs its own unique IP address.

to do this i will need to install a second network card & get another IP address from my ISP

for the moment i am going to use the actinic shared ssl service for the second actinic site

does anyone else have similar problems ?

do i have the right solution ?

Cant see why you would need another network card, just an additional IP address.

If a new network card was needed for every ssl cert then some servers would have tens of them hanging of the servers

See about getting another IP address assigned to you by your network providers and then assign this to the second site that you want ssl on, that should do the trick

please excuse my ignorance, but how do you apply 2 ip addresses to a single network card using Windows 2000 Server

Unless w2000 is completely different from Nix. The network card is just one IP that can be assigned to the server.

I take it that your other sites on the server are using the name based system of pointing into your sites with a single IP address. So you should be able to get your network provider to assign you another IP address, once this is known then create or alter the 2nd site so that it uses this IP address.

You may need to go into the system to allocate the IP address to your range of server IPs, but this is something that a W2000 administrator would be able to explain the doings for this as we use Nix, sorry.
