    HostingDeals setup problems..urgent

If I could swear, I would!

I've had these new setting from my host company for a week or so and have changed the nameservers with my registrar so I know that's OK.
Trouble is, I'm trying to set my FTP details and login info in my network settings and nothing is working.

As of 6pm, I seem to have no website! It's been fine all day and now it's down and I've no idea why.

I've set my server, login and password as instructed (which works in my FTP program, logging me in fine) to no avail.
I'm getting a whole host of errors why I attempt to test the network settings within Actinic Catalog.

    First one I'm getting is
"Unable to move to the cgi-bin directory "/cgi-bin" on the FTP server.
The specified directory does not exist or you do not have access to the directory."

I've not changed the path to cgi-bin as there was no instruction to and even when I checked in my online adnim area earlier there was no help there.

Now I can't even get into my admin area, it's saying account suspended for some reason!

I don't suppose that anyone esle with "HostingDeals.co.uk" can be of assistance can they?
I've tried tinkering but I reckon, in my ignorant (and heavily pregnant hormonal) start, I'm digging my hole deeper!

Please help, my website is down!
    TIA, Tracey

Go into the account using FTP and check what the permissions on the acatalog folder are and see if they are good enough for world read access, although just grasping at straws why you might be having these problems, but as your root page comes up this seems the likely problem, although changes in the httpd.conf or srm.conf file at the server level may be the cause but you wont have access to that.

Hope you get it sorted soon.

        still no joy

        I did both those things.
Got the main Actinic settings from the website (wish they could have just emailed me them though!) and checked the settings in my FTP program.

Seems the cgi-bin is not writable (is that a word?) from this end either through FTP or catalog and I cannot change it.

Guess that's the problem? Have submitted to drummondsupport last night and shall be calling them first thing this morning.

Timing sucks too. I'm left sans website in the meantime, as well as having a sick toddler who I have to keep off nursery today, men coming to fix stuff in my house, being about ready to "pop" this baby (which should scare at least the latter group into action..LOL) and having to sort this website pretty pronto!

And Thursdays are a busy enough work day as it is.

        Bah humbug, I hate Thursdays!

Will keep you posted. Long absence from this board due to being too lazy to log onto the website (I loved it dropping in my email inbox!)

Thanks all, Tracey (off to find the Bachs Rescue Remedy!)

Get them to chmod the folders at the server command line to something like drwxr-x--x, which will make the folder able to execute files, but not list its content, i.e. the forbidden system and if you also have the same problem with acatalog folder chmod it to drwxr-xr-x which should set the correct permissions.

          Hope it helps...

            hmmm...

OK, on further inspection in my online control panel (which I can now get into!) it is actually set like that but the problem lies, I think, in the fact that I am not set as the "owner" of that particular file, "they" are. (tried changing it, of course, but it doesn't allow me)

Hence, I can read and execute but not write, if you see what I mean?

FOr anyone who knows what I'm on about, most of the files in my webspace( few that there are!) have my username listed as the "owner" but the mainwebsite-cgi does not. It lists the "root" as owner and I am unable to write to it.

Hence catalog failing in all it's efforts to communicate with it.

So, I'm left twiddling my thumbs til support get back to me.
Damn drummond's internet support feature might be good but I can't get hold of them on the phone to get an answer (or a solution anyway) NOW! I'll just have to wait for them..AGAIN

Grrr....fuming now. And I just know that when Icome to uploiad the site (which I need to do from scratch) it'll take longer than BT's allowed 2 hours and disconnect on me part way. Typically, our broadband doesn't come online til next wednesday.

            Thanks again, Tracey

When you get hold of them ask them to chown the folders to your username, i.e. making you the owner of the folders in question.

Hopefully that will prevent you having to upload the whole lot again but no promises that will be the case, but atleast you would be the folder owner.

              All the best...

                Update

Well, finally, after much time on the phone with Drummond (who, to be fair, are very good at their support, at least!) everything is sorted.

They didn't have a clue what was wrong, despite me telling them in plain English, but have now changed the cgi so it is owned, and therefore writable, by me!

                Phew!

Luckily, my BT connection didn't disconnect after 2 hours either so I got it all uploaded OK.

                Roll on broadband!

Thanks everyone for your help, Tracey
