"Access Forbidden" error message

Hi

A couple of customers have reported that they get an "Access forbidden" message at some stage in the ordering process - I am trying to find out exactly what the error is and where in the process it occurs.

Other customers do not have problems, and test orders I have placed myself are fine.

I don't know of course how many others might be getting the same fault and giving up!

Clearly the customer base will have widely varying PC configs, operating systems etc. so it might be specific to one OS or config.

I'm using Catalog 6.1 at present, URL is www.nickdobsonwines.co.uk.

Just put a test order on to the point of entering personal details and all seems fine. We have had some trouble like this before but tends to be "General Script Error" message. Never had access forbidden. Have managed to clear it with a site refresh.

Using PC, W2K, IE6 with medium security, if that helps.

Okay looking at your site, i cannot find any problem at all.

However thou, if some of your customers have Norton 2003 then it possible that they are going to http://www.nickdobsonwines.co.uk/acatalog/

I had the same problem with a site I've recently done.http://www.premierequineinternational.com

Some customers have said they get the message "access to this directory is forbidden" when they try to order.

The only way I could get this to happen myself was to go to www.premierequineinternational/acatalog/ but I couldn't see how that could be happening to customers unintentionally until I read Nadeems post about Norton 2003.

Because there was no index.html in the acatalog directory it was throwing up the access forbidden message (main shop page is called equestrian-products.html for search engine reasons)

I've now done what I guess nickD has done with his site - put in an index.html page which redirects customers to the main shop page

Its not a complete solution because customers don't go back to the page they came from, but on the other hand they might not know they're supposed to

Hope this helps anybody else with the same problem and thanks to Nadeem for the answer
