Unable to locate database for the selected site

My client was trying to copy the site 1 folder on their system to cd and managed to empty some of the contents of the folder. They say they have restored it but it is coming up with the message:

Unable to locate database for the selected site

They have then tried re-installing actinic but still get the error.

    Any ideas?

You get this error when Actinic has not got the registry setting it needs to tell it where the database is located.

Has the user by any chance installed Actinic on one NT profile and is now trying to load it on another?

The only way to really fix this is to re-install Actinic and then copy their Site1 folder across into the new installation.

          thanks Chris.

They have tried this but it throwing out all kinds of other errors. Bit difficult to say exactly what cos I am not there.

Will try and resolve it for them though.

Unable to locate database for selected site

Hi - I had to reinstall Windows XP following a corrupt config sys file and now when I click on "Catalogue" i get the error "unable to locate database for selected site. the site will not be changed".
I can see all my program files within the actinic ecommerce folder so I dont really want to have to reinstall actinic and then my shop on top of it because it takes a long time and it is difficult to get the network information from my isp for the set up (is there a file i can get this info from without having to ask them?).
your advices would be very much appreciated.

You are going to have to re-install the Actinic application in order to reinstate the system settings that lets Windows open Actinic OK.

              To do this

              1) Copy your 'Actinic ecommerce v4\Sites\Site1' folder (and any other folders in the 'Sites' folder) somewhere very safe.

              2) Delete the contents of the 'Actinic ecommerce v4' folder.

              3) Re-install Actinic from your CD (or you can download it from here) and license it with the key you were given.

              4) Start Actinic to create a site and then close it again.

              5) Copy the contents of the 'Site1' folder you backed up into the newly-created 'Site1' folder.

              6) Re-start Actinic, check your data and preview. If you are happy, do a 'Web | Refresh Website'.

Chris- thanks for prompt response. Can you just advise firstly (and this may seem daft question) - how do I "delete contents of folder" without deleting folder itself. and Second, when I try to copy over folders from my CD to my laptop it tells me the CD-Rom is read only and I cannot copy files.
                thanks, Pam
