SMTP Authentication is not supported by this server

Hi, I've done the searches, tried using 'localhost' with and without authentication, still no joy.

I contacted my ISP (hsphere), they don't support SENDMAIL but do support QMAIL. Does anyone know what I need to do to get qmail working??

    thanks
    Liz

Hi Liz, Actinic needs the smtp server details for your host. What settings do they recommend for accessing the smtp server?

      Hi Mike
I'm at a different PC today, one that wouldn't upload last week, but could upload the site using the same settings from another PC. So I'll check out firewall settings on the PCs next.

Now this morning I re-entered the same settings and it's worked.
      mail server: mail.domain.com
      username: info@domain.com
      password: *****

Last night these same settings gave me the error message below.
      thanks for your response

spoke too soon, same error is back!!

I am getting the same errror again (invalid smtp server)! Only worked once.

When I go through the Network Wizard I get an error telling me that
        commonOCC\output\occprocessor.fil
        contains an invalid path.

I have disabled AVG so that is not a factor. Right now I need to get Actinic network settings working on this machine. As I was saying earlier the exact same settings work on my own PC but can't get it to work on the client's pc.

        Any suggestions??

          Hi Liz,

it sounds like it's worth looking at the network settings. Can you export them to a file and then copy and paste them here. And can you give us a link to your host? The only hsphere sites I could find are for control panel software.

A forum search before asking a question often yields results....

              Hi Mike
here's the settings I copied from Actinic Diagnostic tool:

              [FTP Host]: getupandgrow.ie
              [FTP CGI Path]: /getupandgrow.ie/cgi-bin/
              [FTP User]: raineach
              [SMTP Host]: mail.getupandgrow.ie
              [CGI to Web Path]: /hsphere/local/home/raineach/getupandgrow.ie/acatalog/
              [PathToPerl]: /usr/bin/perl
              [CgiScriptExtension]: .pl
              [FTPtoWebPath]: /getupandgrow.ie/acatalog/
              [nHttpProxyMode]: 0
              [sHttpProxyAddress]:
              [nHttpProxyPort]: 80
              [nFtpProxyMode]: 0

hsphere is the control panel that our ISP uses to administer their servers. I also did a search on their site (psoft.net) and host's (darklite.ie) but no joy.
Meanwhile I did get an email from Actinic in my inbox even though it gave the invalid smtp error msg.

              Liz

Have you tried the solution in my previous post?

                  Hi Liz,

It looks like there are at least two problems here.

                  1. The OCC output error which you should follow the link from Jo's post and see if that fixes it.

                  2. The smtp problem. I've looked at your hosts email guide and all I can say is that I would never use a host that won't let you send emails from the server via smtp. They're just being lazy and making your life hard. Your host might allow email relaying from 3rd part domains but unless you can talk to them or look at their email advice there's little I can do to help as you still haven't said who they are.

                  3. Some of the network settings look strange but that isn't a view I've looked at before. The way to do this is to export your netting settings and then copy and paste them into into the forum (remembering to over-write your username and password).

                    Hi Liz

Have you managed to get this issue sorted, if you'r still having the problems please give us the complete network settings so we can look into it. Like Mike for me too the settings don't look correct.

                    Kind Regards
                    Kiran Chandran

                      Hi Jo
thank you the ccp prob is resolved.

                      I've attached network_settings.txt
I've also sent them to my ISP (www.darklite.ie) hopefully they will get back to me today.

I will update this thread as soon as I hear from them.
