how to force http upload instead of ftp upload ?

Hi,
Uploading my site (www.phonecall.fr) takes now as much as 4 hours when it is uploading in ftp
sometimes it shows "time out error" several times and then asks if i want to upload in http mode instead of ftp mode if i say "yes" then it goes much more faster.
does anyone know if i can begin upload directly in http mode ?
(did not find any settings about this issue)

Stephane, post your network settings, so we can take a look at your ftp settings. I understand it seems better to have http upload, however this will be due to a problem. I'd guess that your timeouts or passive ftp settings need looking into or that your host is crap, either way they should solve easily and remove the problem.

4 hours is horrendous, you must be going mental watching that. I can load a brand new 6,000 product site from scratch in 40 minutes, so it must be a setting your end. Unless you have millions of products and best sellers etc all over the place.

Give us a bit of info on your shop, we may have some more answers.
