There are minor differences in the settings I used with 1&1 business:-

        FTPPROXYMODE 0 --- You have 1
FTPHOST drillpine.biz --- You have www.
        PATHTOCGIBIN /cgi-bin --- you have /cgi-bin/

I'm not sure if these will help.

It's also possible that in your upgrade that some things at 1&1 are still referring to the old account.

You could manually FTP into 1&1 and look in cgi-bin and see if any catalog network test files have made it there.

          Hi Norman,
ok i have changed those things apart from the /at the end of cgi-bin as the computer will NOT allow me to do this...
ok this is what i have now thios error...

Your Catalog URL appears to be invalid. The files uploaded to the given 'Path from cgi-bin to acatalog directory', can not be downloaded via the browser on the given Catalog URL. These two access routes don't point to the same destination on the server.

any ideas?? i dont know what to try??
i have used internet explore to ftp to my folders on the server and i have added a folder called cgi-bin as they was not one there!! should i have done this?? is this correct??
          thanks

First impression (and it's a personal one only) is that you are using a well-used Actinic template. This has been around for a couple of years and has a bit of a dated feel. I'd take a look at the Clean And Simple layouts as these can be easily adapted to suit you house colours and have a modern feel. If you stick with this template I'd recommend losing that striped outside border. Replacing it with a block of colour the same as you page background would tidy things up.

The second is that your home page is VERY slow to load, mainly because your image is a 130K .GIF file. Converting this to .JPG makes the same image only 23K and would speed things up immensely.

When you go to product pages your title bar is much wider than the page. Mainly because your company logo has a huge amount of white space on each side. If you crop this it will help.

Also you could make your section images the same width (just pad them out with white space) to get a more even layout on the section page. Again these ar .GIF's and would be much smaller as .JPG.

I looked at one of your product pages http://www.kiteforce.co.uk/acatalog/...wer_Kites.html and the images ARE jpg but have been saved with minimal compression and again are much too big. The first one on that page Airbrush Trio reduces from 19K to 6K when saved wioth moderate compression, again much decreasing the page load time.

Hey! You're a kitesurfer. I'm a windsurfer. I'm writing from Bitez, Turkey which is one of the best windsurf spots in Europe (although technically the Middle East). See www.rushwindsurf.itgo.com for here. This is my summer home and I'm out windsurfing most days. Today was a typical day with a 5.5 on an AHD 260 doing the business. We have a few kitesurfers nearby but this bay isn't really suitable unless you're an expert who'd never dump the kite as there are too many boats and boards out there and my fin is sharp. A few miles away at Akyarlar is a much better place for kites (see www.fenerwindsurf.com).

                Hi Norman,
                Thanks for the feedback…
Can you please tell me how to do a few things…

                1. If I change the template will it mess up my site??
                2. How do I convert the images to .jpg from .gif?? (just rename the file extension)
                3. How do I save the images with moderate compression? (I am using Photoshop 6)
Is it when I select “save for web use” in the file menu?

                  1. If I change the template will it mess up my site??
You'll get a completely different looking site - but your products and company information should still be there. It's just the look of the site that will change. You seem to be using a standard theme and templates so you should be able to cjange back if you had to.

                  2. How do I convert the images to .jpg from .gif?? (just rename the file extension)
No you have to open the images and re-save them as type jpg. See below regarding jpg compression.

                  3. How do I save the images with moderate compression? (I am using Photoshop 6)
Is it when I select “save for web use” in the file menu?
Yes. Use "Save for web.." and make sure you choose the type to be jpg. You are then given an option of various compression factors and the corresponding file sizes. Just choose the one that looks OK and has a smallish file size.

                  Norman

p.s. Off surfing now - it's 2 hours later than the UK here and the wind is up.

                    Angelo,

There I was powered down and heading out the door when I realised I'd forgot to say:-

Before doing any major surgery on your site make a copy of the entire Site1 folder (it's in Program Files\Actinic Ecommerce v6\Sites). Now if you completely screw up; just name the (bad) Site1 folder to something like Site1.BAD and copy the backup Site1 back in. You'll be back exactly where you were before.

Note that this would lose you any product changes and orders you'd downloaded since you made the copy. So make sure you print out all the order details before restoring.

                    Norman

                    Definitely out that door now!

                        Hi Angelo

As a fellow kite nut, I fully agree with all of Norman's comments re the design of your site.

Take a look at other kite sites and compare yours to them and them take a guess at which site gives most pleasure to the buyer.

Here are several general kite shops. powerkiteshop.co.uk, coastguardkites.co.uk, trick-of-the-eye-kites.co.uk, these shops have the most competitive prices in the UK, how are you going to compete with them?

Go for a clean layout, and get some stylish design work commissioned.....kite people are very style driven, just listen to people discussing kite design and board design and technology.

Take a look at surf-wax.co.uk, this is extreme sport driven and the shop is catalog

Hi I agree Norman I have changed the layout of the site but not uploaded it yet because on the home page and normal website pages (not the eshop pages) I have a big blank space I would like to put something in there so it does NOT look so boring!! The space is on the left-hand side as you are looking at the computer!!
Sorry if you do not understand this message!!
                          Thanks
                          Angelo

PS Portland!! As for how will I compete with other sites I will offer bigger discounts!! And a very good after sales program.
If you are after any kite gear email me and I will beat another shops price!
                          Thanks

From that, it sounds like you need to edit the file called 'Act_BrochurePrimary.html' within your 'Site1' folder. This is the file which will put the top and side bars into your 'brochure' pages.
