Site Upload Problem after moving to new server

I read the forum first to see if anyone has my specific issue but no-one had so here goes.

We have moved to a new server and I copied the old site across and then tried to upload.

I get the dreaded - An error occured when trying to merge etc.

So then I do the test and it comes up with - cant run cgi-script on the server etc.

Now, My question is, how the heck is my server running quite happily the site I moved over via it's domain of www.army-surplus.org.uk if it can't run cgi-scripts!

Surely it is using the cgi-scripts to run the web-site which is live (although suspended).

I have checked all the paths etc. and seeing as there are no differences from my old server to new one, that shouldnt be a problem.

The only major difference and one I am dreading a reply to, is the new server is 64 bit.

Can anyone help as I am tearing out what little hair I have left!

Go to Web / Network Setup (Advanced / Network Setup if using V7), run the Test and report what happens.

Yes, thats where I get the error - Actinic is not able to run cgi-scripts on the server, try the path etc. etc.

Try the wizard if you have no idea what you are doing or search the forum on your host's name to see if settings are already in here. Did you make sure they work with Actinic before you purchased?

Are you sure that the server you are using now is set up to allow cgi-scripts. The reason I ask is because if you try using parts of your site that would use the cgi-scripts they dont appear to be working - eg using the search box or the contact us page link.

How do you set up a windws server to 'allow' it to use cgi-scripts?

Althoughyou're right though, I spotted that one just now as well, the cgi-scripts are clearly not working.

When I have had the issue of my cgi-scripts not running I have contacted my hosting company and asked them to set the server up to allow cgi-scripts to run.

Convert to Linux/Unix and make your life easy, you should be able to swap relatively easy.

LOL. This is a BRAND NEW windows server with about 10 sites written in asp and asp.net, so we wont be changing!

Not really the answer that one.

Think its back to command line testing of perl.

                        Could be a long night.

Try searching the forum there's many posts about hassles getting windows servers configured that may help you.

                          Fixed it.

For future reference in case anyone else gets stuck on this one.

in iis 6.0 you have to allow the cgi-scripts in web service extensions as windows blocks them by default!

this is just an iis 6.0 issue not iis 5.0. Luckliy I know a clever chap who does development for us!
