    Permissions on Windows IIS6

I am having trouble with cgi-bin permissions

    The story so far
    Site working fine
    Mother board died
Complete new server - restored data and ported IIS and FTP etc
    Several Actinic sites operating fine
Many .asp and .html sites running fine
    1 Actinic causing problems.

When I try a purchase I get an error
"An error occurred while attempting to generate a unique order number. Actinic ecommerce is unable to lock the counter file. Permission denied"
    on checkout Page 2

when running network test I get
"You do not have write permissions to the cgi-bin directory "cgi-bin/" or it does not exist.

I can see it in the FTP client and in IIS

Also the permissions are shown as 666 in ftp client (wrong I know) but changing them has no effect at all.

From Windows Explorer Security settings I can see permissions as follows
    Administrator - Full Control
Creator - No Access at all allowed
    System - Full Control
Users - Read & Execute | List Folder Content | Read
I can not seem to change these and am afraid in trying I have maybe made things worse.

Is there a higher setting in Windows that prevents theses changes - My RDP user has Admin rights as far as I can see (member of the Admin Group)
Not so sure how to manage the ftp user though.

Strange - the settings seem to be the same as other Actinic sites on same server and they are working OK.

Any pointers on what may be wrong - Windows Permission Issue / Actinic Issue

    Thanks

Hi David - try giving the IUSR_[MachineName] write access to the folder on the server.

    Hope that works for you.

Have tried that Kevin thanks but it did not make any difference - sort off...

When testing Network settings I am still getting the error
You do not have write permissions to the cgi-bin directory "cgi-bin/" or it does not exist.
BUT - I did run the wizard and told it to verify each stage I seemed to get past that and stuck at the last stage with the following error
"An error occurred while sending an http request to the web server. Try again or contact your network administrator to correct the situation."
aborted wizard and ran test again - back to cgi-bin error again

Have my server guys looking at it now. Windows permissions and ability to change etc. Am really at a loss here - other sites are working fine on same server.
Have set up hosting from scratch on a development domain for this site and its still not working - next is to try an new Actinic site using demo data and new hosting space on server....
Will advise if I get anywhere

      Thanks in the meantime

One other thing to try is to [temporarily] set write permissions to Machine/Everyone and check again (then remove the rights straight away of course). If the wizard or writes work then, then at least you deffinately know its a permissions thing on the folder - and not anything more sinister.

          Kevin

Thanks for your help - things are now working

we did try you last and it made no difference so we actually removed all user/permissions from the folders and re set it by duplicating what was on another site. They did look the same but removing and re doing seems to have sorted the matter.

I still get an error re cgi-bin permissions from the Network Settings Test but the site uploads OK, Orders can be placed and are coming down - so "if it 'aint bust don't fix it" I think will apply for a while.

Anyhow I really appreciated your help so thanks again
