duncan, sorry to bother you but how do I check permissions of the cgi directory? I have opened the site in an ftp client as you said and I can see the cgi bin but no webroot?

      Cheers

in filezilla you can right click on the directory, and select file attributes.

mind as mike pointed out, you say your on windows server, this does not work the same, or have you requested to be moved to a unix/linux server.

Locate the cgi-bin folder in your directory and right click above the folder and Select "File Attributes...". You'll see a series of Permission check boxes, beath which you should see the 3 digit number 755 in the "Numeric Value" Box. This will check all Permission boxes except the "Write" permisson boxes for Group and Public Permissions.

            thank you rich,

I have done this and it currently has owner permissions, group permissions and public permissions. they are all dotted green. The numeric value is xxx - I over type this to 755 and when I go back in it is back to xxx

            hmmm - blond moment ?

Sounds like you are hosted on a Windows server, in which case only your host can probably make those changes. As mentioned previously it is much easier to use Linux hosting instead.
