    Anyone using RACKSPACE ?

Hi there. Is there anyone out there that is sucessfully using Rackspace as a host?

I'm having the usual problems of CGI-BIN not working and have tried everything mentioned on the forum. Although the support at Rackspace is excellent it is the usual "we don't know actinic" story so now it's deadlock.

If there is anyone out there who has an actinic site working on Rackspace I'd be keen to form a triangle with Rackspace so they can sort my server out !

    Waiting in anticipation.

as ever, posting your network settings (without passwords) would perhaps help someone identify a problem

To give a bit more info, firstly on upload it fails to do the merge. And on clicking on anything on the site I get "500" server errors.

(The site I am uploading a just a test out-of-the-box site to get things moving).

what do you get when you run a network test?

(Web > Network Setup > Test)

It's the first thing you need to get working before worrying about an unsuccessful upload.

I get "Actinic received a server error from the web server. The CGI scripts are not executing properly on the server. Run Web | Configure Web Site Details... to review your web site configuration."

              pretty nondescript message, as ever!

I know it's not giving a permissions specific error but have you ftp-ed into your site to check that the permissions on the folders are as they should be?
cgi-bin should be 755, acatalog should be 777 (although sometimes your host may require this to be 755, either should be ok)

Failing that, it's perhaps a cgi-bin path error, in which case, as Rackspace don't seem able to help, you will need to await rescue from someone on here who does use it or knows what it should be.

So any Rackspacers out there ?

                  try changing this bit

                  PATHTOCGIBIN /var/www/html/cgi-bin/

                  to PATHTOCGIBIN /cgi-bin/

Hi there, if I do that it says "Unable to move to the cgi-bin directory "/cgi-bin/" on the FTP server. The specified directory does not exist or you do not have access to the directory."

I have tried all flavours in the with and without "/" etc

                      OK

having looked a bit more, can you tell us what os your on (linux or windows)

and im sure some here are using rackspace, but it definately looks like there is a problem running the scripts.

a couple of things to try, change the script id then restart actinic and upload, also change the script extension from pl to cgi and try that

The guys in this thread are using Rackspace. It may be worth contacting them direct, if Darren can't sort you out, but I'm sure he will.

Ok Rackspace are saying the format of the scripts are in Windows format not Unix format ?

                              When they run this command: ]# dos2unix -o *

on all the files in the cgi-bin folder it fixes the problem!

And it does.... until I upload the site again, and then they all go wrong again. I have to upload again as the site has never fully uploaded sucesssfully (cannot "merge files".)

So why are the scripts uploading in s bad format?
