    UKFast: I can't upload site

    Hi All,
Has anyone there hosted with a ukfast dedicated server?

If so did you have problems uploading your site from actinic?

And finally if you did have intial problems, how did you fix it?

I've recently been trying to move a site from a shared linux server to a UKFast dedicated server, but whilst I can ftp using another program with no problem & as far as i know the file structure for network connection through actinic should be fine, I still can't connect.

Just wondered if anyone else had this problem.

    p.s Network Settings attached

Ok. the username and password have now been removed from the txt file.

It all looks OK. the only thing I can think of is to run a network test and see what error messages come up.

          OK

Right is the domain live on this server, i mean all the ns records point to this server or is it still on the old server. If this is not the live server yet then the settings you have will not work as they resolve to the current live site. Im trying to understand your arrangement at the moment but presumming this to be the case may i suggest the following changes

          CATALOGURL http://78.109.163.65/acatalog/
          CGIBINURL http://78.109.163.65/cgi-bin/

          PATHFROMCGITOCATALOG ../acatalog/
          PATHTOCGIBIN /cgi-bin/
          FTPPATHFROMCGITOCATALOG

Also create a new ftp account that only gives you access to the root area of this domain, im guessing you have more than one domain hosted on this server? if not then im not sure why your using the sws in the url

you need to give us more info on how you have this server configured and how your using it?

Here are my settings for a UKFast shared server.
One thing - I found that in order to get flawless uninterupted uploads, I had to clean off all the user-configurable stuff from the domain, so that it was just the virgin root with UKFast's gubbins in (/logs; /others/ etc)
I then manually created each Actinic folder by hand with Filezilla, setting the Actinic required permissions as I went along (ie; /cgi-bin; /html; /html/acatalog).

Hmmm - this is where I ran into problems. UKFast help instructed me on how to pre-load my site/s before moving the DNS, but I couldn't get it to work at all, so I just took the plunge, changed the DNS and kept an eye for the first opportunity to upload, which actually wasa very quick - hours before it changed widely on the net.

you cant use the full url's then as they are pointing to the wrong server

you need to change this aswell

                    CATALOGURL http://shop.swimmingwithoutstress.co.uk/sws/acatalog/
                    CGIBINURL http://shop.swimmingwithoutstress.co.uk/sws/cgi-bin/

                    thats were your problems are.

you need to upload to your server name and create an ftp account for this site which only has access to the public_html area

your settings will need to be something like

http://svr.name.co.uk/~username/acatalog the username is your control panel username (not the whm cpanel the site cpanel)

                      Thanks All,
I have now managed to upload in some respect to site using the settings attached.
However whilst the files upload I do get the error message "An error occurred while sending the merge request".

I know this is a common problem but I have tried compacting the database and clearing the file on the site then doing a refresh but I still get the same error.

                      Any further thoughts?

                      Regards

That could be due to the execution time of the script on the server.
Try making a small product change and then uploading to see if it still persists.

                          Cheers Darran,
Just got that, i will try using the ip address.

though just in case it makes a difference I have changed settings on my pc so when I request the domain it looks for it at the new ip address. At it finds the pages no problem.

I didn't think it would make a difference as long as the ftp was correct and I used relative paths.

I'll give it a go though

                          cheers bangers

Depending on your settings, relative paths probably wont work when using temporary url's
