    Odd FTP Issue

I spent about an hour and a half last night on the phone with 1and1 support trying to resolve a problem I have with my FTP client accessing my webspace. They were very helpful and have assisted in narrowing down the problem at least.

    The strange thing is this...

Using Filezilla (or any other FTP client infact) I can get a connection to the 1and1 FTP server but a directory listing is denied. I can use theh command prompt and ftp to get a connection but likewise it report that the listing is denied.

I can successfully FTP to other host servers no problem, it is only with 1and1, and strangley as I mentioned the conection is made with username and password but just the listing is denied.

I have tried another computer on the same network but it also shows the same problem.

Now that only leaves my ISP and my router/network. My next step is to repower the router but could this in some way be due to my ISP (Virgin)? And if so how could that be? I would need to be armed with at least a possible cause before I can expect Virgin to even consider there's a problem (and even then I'm sure they will not believe it to be their problem).

I have tried on another ISP with a different network and computer and it connects and lists ok.

Everything worked perfectly yesterday morning till Actinic failed during an upoad.

    Anybody see this peculiarity before?

    I can empathise!
Perhaps your ISP have blacklisted your site for some reason? Or 1and1 have blocked your IP? (did they check?)
Maybe they saw repeated access attempts, by Actinic's failed upload, as an 'attack'?
I've had similar issues in the past (as Darren will know!) and it was a right pain to get sorted

1and1 confirmed that my IP was not blocked - by two different people as that was what I initially thought. In the past when I have 'abused' ftp connections with 1and1 (in their eyes) the account is just disabled for about 30 minutes and after that time works fine again.

I still feel it's more likely 1and1 still but can rule out Virgin perhaps.

i know you probably have already, but have you checked the directory permissions

Works fine on another ISP so can't be permissions.

good point - seems a bit weird, could be a virgin problem though something specific to the way the data is handled

Since my initial post I have been having quite a bit of communication with 1and1 support.
And although they were extremely helpful and very responsive they could not find what was wrong.

I got an email yesterday saying that they had checked and found it all working - and magically so do I now. Whatever they ddin't do has worked.
