    Addressing subsites

I've had to mount our site on a new server (unix). The main site is working, but the subsite is not, and think it is to do with the addressing. I've read Lee Hackett's questions and have checked the permissions. (The subsite sits in a folder under the main site called "us" with permission set to 755). Inside this, acatlog permission is 777 and cgi-bin permission is 755.

I haven't tried changing the CGI number admittedly (as I don't know much about this). I tried running the setup wizard (in V8) but it didn't like what I gave it for the web root directory and came back with "unable to connect" errors.

Can anyone see anything way out of whack in these settings?

Is the cgi-bin definitely in the sub folder or is that still in the root?

The cgi-bin is in the subfolder as I was advised by Actinic that the 2 site should have separate cgi-bins

Correct, just making sure that wasn't causing you an issue.

Have you tried importing the network settings from your original site and then entering the sub folder directory where appropriate? Obviuosly changing the passwords as and when you need to.

Also, make sure the two sites have different Script IDs just incase

Hi Rich, there's no point in worrying about the old settings because the site architecture is different on the new site.

I'll try the script ID thing - do I just use another number like "2"?
          Thanks

Yeah, but it may be worth you having one site starting 00001 and the other 100001 so if you ever need to increment them at a later date you are certain you won't have a conflict.

This may not be necessary with them being in different folders, but at least we can rule it out.

Sorry Rich, you lost me there... what starts with 00001 and 100001?

Your Script IDs. Your first site will be at 1; Make your sub site 1001 or something similar, so if and when you have to increment them they will never be the same.

Again, I don't know if this if relevant when the cgi-bins are in two different folders.

Well, I can at least try it. Thanks. Does the other addressing look OK to you?

Have you tried adding the "/us" to the website URL and is "/public_html" necessary in your path to cgi and from acatalog links.

Remember to change thing one at a time to determine which is having an effect.

I don't know about being so fine - I've been battling this for weeks! I might be able to get back to it tomorrow, or it might not be till Tuesday. Have another look for me then if you would
                          many thanks Rich
