    V9 upload errors

Hi, I am new to this forum and have searched numerous posts for some answers to my problem.

I am running Actinic designer V 9.0.5 on a Linux Centos 5.5 server.

I keep getting the below error when I test the network settings:

The test script failed to execute on the web server. The error could be caused by several things. Check:
    - the 'Path to the Perl shell'
    - the 'CGI script extension'
    - the 'Path to CGI-BIN'
    - the 'CGI-BIN URL'
    - the amount of web space left on your server
    - if your server is configured to accept POSTs to CGI scripts
    - the permissions on the server:
On Linux/Unix based servers the permissions should be:
    cgi-bin (755)– drwxr-xr-x
    Online Store Folder (777)– drwxrwxrwx
On Windows based servers (need to be checked with the hosting company):
    IIS
    cgi-bin = read/execute
    Online Store Folder = read/write/execute
    NTFS
cgi-bin = Catalog's FTP account needs 'Change' permissions on the directory
Online Store Folder = Catalog's FTP account needs 'Change' permissions on the directory AND the IUSR_<servername> account needs to have 'Change' permissions on the directory

I have checked both the cgi bin and the acatalog permissions and both are as they should be, my paths are all correct and I have absolutely no idea what is stopping the upload.

The person hosting the site (not a hosting company) says it is not a server issue and must be at my end but i have nothing else to change/check.

Can anyone help or has anyone else had a similar problem with a Centos 5.5 server.

Thank you in advance for any help

Hi Sarah, there's a specific forum for these type of problems (i've moved your thread into it now). If you can take a look at the sticky at the top and provide all that is asked for, one of us will jump in and help you. Thanks.

In answer to the other Q's on the sticky:

Who is your host? A company called guntrader.co.uk, the domain is held on their server. The URL for the eventual website is www.wiltsrodguns.com

Is it unix or windows hosting? Linux Centos5.5 server

Is the permission on the cgi-bin set to 755? - yes

Is the permission on the acatalog folder set to 777? - yes

Is this your first upload? Has it worked in the past? Yes with the new design and using V9 of Actinic. The old website was designed using V8 and worked in the past.

Have you compacted the database in the housekeeping menu? - yes just now.

Have you changed the cgi number in network setup and tried to reupload? - yes tried on 0 and 1.

Have you run the network wizard? what was the result? - yes they all get green ticks until I get as far as the email set up and get this error "an error occured whilst sending an HTTP request to the server" - I have never seen this error before and when the old website was active, using the same email settings i.e local host, all worked ok.

      Hope this helps,
      thanks
      Sarah

CATALOG URL should not have 'htdocs' in it.

I have since corrected an error in one of my paths that has enabled me to upload the files but i still get the following error when i upload; at the "checking search indices" part i get this:
Actinic received a server error from the web server. The CGI scripts are not executing properly on the server. The error could be caused by several things. Check:
          - the 'Path to the Perl shell'
          - the 'CGI script extension'
          - the 'Path to CGI-BIN'
          - the 'CGI-BIN URL.
          - the amount of web space left on your server
          - if your server is configured to accept POSTs to CGI scripts
          - the permissions on the server:

On Linux/Unix based servers the permissions should be:
          cgi-bin (755) – drwxr-xr-x
Online Store Folder (777) – drwxrwxrwx
On Windows based servers (need to be checked with the hosting company):
          IIS
          cgi-bin = read/execute
          Online Store Folder = read/write/execute
          NTFS
cgi-bin = Catalog's FTP account needs 'Change' permissions on the directory
Online Store Folder = Catalog's FTP account needs 'Change' permissions on the directory AND the IUSR_<servername> account needs to have 'Change' permissions on the directory.

I know all permissions are set as they should be.

Then when i close that error it continues to load and at the "merge" section of the upload i get an error saying possible cause is corrupt scrispts or permissions.

I really really need some expert help on this if you have ever come accross this before as i really need to get this site up and running.

The site URL is www.wiltsrodguns.com and you can see all my items but none of the cgi bin functions such as the search, view cart, store top (actinic links a the right) are working.

I would be grateful for any help at all on this.

          thank you
          Sarah

Thanks Lee, i found an error in one of the paths and have sorted the file upload but i am having massive problems with the cgi bits as my recent post shows. I really dont know how to go forward as the company who host the site say all permissions are as they should be and that the server supports the CHMOD function which actinic support asked me to check, so i am at a loss now.

Do you have any ideas what could be causing this?

Thanks again for your time earlier.

It seems to be struggling to find your cgi-bin, if you say that has the right permissions, then my next part to check would be the wizard, that will proceed through your settings and where it finds problems, try to fix them. I would also tick enhanced ftp. It's pointless trying to upload without a full pass on the network test.

Can you post your new network settings as there were a couple of 'htdocs' that shouldn't be there.

Also, I see that you're ftp'ing intp a different domain. Can you confirm that there's no extra paths needed to get from

                FTPHOST www2.guntrader.co.uk

                to

                CGIBINURL http://www.wiltsrodguns.com/cgi-bin/

                i.e. it is just

                PATHTOCGIBIN /cgi-bin/

                  Morning,
I have previously asked Actinic email support to help and the guy there told me the below paths were the correct ones: I have to say that baffled me as i couldnt see any "home" or "manvellt" folder on my ftp program, but i must admit this is a bit of an odd set up as Wiltshire Rod & Gun Ltd have their website on Guntrader.co.uk's server, not on a proper hosting company server. Despite this fact i have had it working on their old server a year ago! And they assure me all the permissions are as i requested.

Mike....i am not sure what you are asking but i think the fact that the actinic guy told me the correct PATHFROMCGITOCATALOG is /home/manvellt/htdocs/acatalog/
and included folders i have never seen before "home" and "manvellt" may be relevant.

Hi Lee, i get all the way through but then it stumbles at the email setup; saying an error occured while sending a http request to the server.

I have tried both localhost and also the smtp setting and username and password options but i get the same response for them both.

                    thx Sarah

Is the email address in business settings of the same domain? If not the host may block the sending for security/spam.

                          Hi Sarah,

Sorry I didn't see you had reposted your network settings.

It's hard to tell what the settings should be without knowing the web server directory structure.

When you ftp into www2.guntrader.co.uk what folders, if any, do you have to go through to get to the wiltsrodguns webspace?

Hi Mike, thank you for your reply, sory i have only just seen it.

To get to wiltsrodguns i have to go through home/manvellt/htdocs

for the cgi bin it would be in home/manvellt...i think. It is awkward as the company who host the site are not a hosting company and are not that helpful to be honest so i am on my own on that front, they have confirmed that all permissions etc are as per my request though. I am sure it is a path error, but cant figure it out.

This is driving me mad as i am sure it is something relatively simple for someone who knows!!!! it has been holding me up for ages now, i feel i have tried everything and cant get rid of the cgi error whenever i upload. The shop does manage to upload, i just ignore the error but the search, view cart functions dont work, i guess that is all the cgi bin functions! see www.wiltsrodguns.com

i really appreciate your help & time on this
                            thanks

Is there a reason why you want to use some of their server space instead of getting your own hosting?
