    Error.. Help please?!

    1.) Host = 123-reg
    2.) i think this is unix hosting but not sure!
    3.) don't know how to set the the permissions to this?
    4.) don't know how to set permissions to this?
    5.) first upload
    6.) not compacted database
    7.) yes tried changing cgi number but didn't work
    8.) yes tried running wizard but says 'the wizard received an error whilst veryfying web server.

      Unable to move to the online store folder "../public_html/" on the FTP server possibly due to a mistake in the Path from CGI-BIN to Online Store Folder field.
      The specified directory does not exist or you do not have access to the directory.

        There are a few things you need to do:

        1. Get rid of your 123-reg holding page. Actinic won't pass the network test while it's still there.

        2. Your smtpserver needs to use the same domain name as your website.

        3. Ask 123-reg where to put your cgi-bin.

        4. Never use your domain without www. You're just asking for trouble.

        After this, repost with an up to date set of network settings and the results of the network test. We should be able to get you sorted from there.

          Have you tried changing the lines to match the settings in the post I linked to?

          Namely...

          PATHFROMCGITOCATALOG ../acatalog/

          and

          PATHTOCGIBIN /public_html/cgi-bin/

          I'd also recommend you always use www as a prefix to your URLs as well.

            An error occurred trying to create the sub-directory "acatalog" on the web site. This is usually due to user permissions, but could be due to low disk space on the web server.

            550 acatalog: Permission denied
            ???!

              Use an FTP client to check the permissions on the cgi-bin and acatalog folders to be 755 and 777 respectively. You can download almost any free FTP client to do this. Navigate to the folders and then right click on them and set the permissions - sometimes called CHMOD.

                  The error message I am presented with when I do the network test is:

                  I have tried to make sure all the permissions of the cgi-bin and acatalog folder are correct ie:

                  cgi-bin = 755 = drwxr-xr-x
                  acatolog = 777 = drwxrwxrwx

                  not sure whether these are the correct permissions?

                  one thing to add is that an index.html file has been uploaded to the acatlog folder and about 30 .pl / .pm files.
                  im not sure what the significance of this is though as when i type the url in the browser the site doesn not appear.

                  123 reg is unix i think.

                  any help is greatly appreciated...

                    OK.

                    The index.html file is probably the default 123-reg one, so I wouldn't worry about that just yet.

                    For some reason your domain name resolves to:

                    http://81.21.76.62/morgansdecorators.com/index.html

                    whch is a bit odd. You'll need to talk to 123-reg and get that sorted. It's not normal to have the IP address pre-pended to the url.

                    FTPPATHFROMCGITOCATALOG public_html/cgi-bin/acatalog/
                    This one is clearly wrong. There's no way the acatalog folder is inside the cgi-bin (at least I hope not). I suspect this setting is the 'leave blank unless otherwise advised' one so I'd leave it blank for now.

                    AFAIK with 123-reg you have to create your own cgi-bin directory, although this may have changed. If you ftp into your account, what does your directory structure look like? For example is it

                    public_html:
                    - acatalog
                    - cgi-bin

                    i.e. with both the acatalog and cgi-bin folders inside the public_html folder?

                      i have deleted what is in ftppathfromcgitocatalog.

                      i changed the structure of my folders to what you suggested which is now:

                      public_html

                      -acatalog
                      -cgi-bin
                      -----------------------------------------------------------

                      i tried to upload again and got this long message!!

                          That's an interesting reponse. It seems to have picked up the 123-reg index.html page from the server. Not a problem though as we're still working on the settings.

                          Right. Now we know where the acatalog and cgi-bin are we can set these within Actinic. Most of what you have should be correct.

                          This though will have to change:

                          PATHFROMCGITOCATALOG ../public_html/acatalog/

                          Should just be ../acatalog/ (i.e. up one level then eneter acatalog directory).

                          Also check the permissions on the cgi-bin. They should be set to 755.

                          If this doesn't work, then check the network test response and see what files are appearing in the cgi-bin and acatalog directory.

                              When you are struggling with something and believe me you are right up there on this, it's very important that you listen and do specificaly as asked (if you want help). This gives you the best chance of fixing the problem in the shortest amount of time. If you want me to help and try sort it for you, you need to do as i ask, not as you want. I can do nothing with what you have provided.
