CGI-Script upload problem with 123-reg

Unix Host
public_html permissions = 777
cgi-bin permissions = 755
acatalog permissions = 777
first upload on this host
tried compacting the database and re-uploading with no success
tried changing the cgi number in network setup and re-uploading with no success
also unsuccessfully tried uploading in binary and ascii

when i try network wizard it gets to the perl part and shows this error message

An error occurred while sending an HTTP request to the web server. Perhaps your
network is down or the web server is down. Try again or contact your network
administrator or ISP to correct the situation.

I have set up on the server folders as shown here.

/public_html
/public_html/acatalog
/public_html/cgi-bin

Here is the error message I get when I run the connection test:


Actinic received a server error from the web server. The CGI scripts are not executing properly on the server. The error could be caused by several things. Check:
- the 'Path to the Perl shell'
- the 'CGI script extension'
- the 'Path to CGI-BIN'
- the 'CGI-BIN URL.
- the amount of web space left on your server
- if your server is configured to accept POSTs to CGI scripts
- the permissions on the server:

On Linux/Unix based servers the permissions should be:
cgi-bin (755) – drwxr-xr-x
Online Store Folder (777) – drwxrwxrwx
On Windows based servers (need to be checked with the hosting company):
IIS
cgi-bin = read/execute
Online Store Folder = read/write/execute
NTFS
cgi-bin = Catalog's FTP account needs 'Change' permissions on the directory
Online Store Folder = Catalog's FTP account needs 'Change' permissions on the directory AND the IUSR_<servername> account needs to have 'Change' permissions on the directory

Run Web | Configure Web Site Details... to review your web site configuration.

I have been trying to upload this for quite a while now any help much appreciated!

The suggested settings here http://community.actinic.com/showthread.php?t=45130 don't seem to have any /public_html/ directory in them.

Is this something you've set up yourself?

you can't delete the public_html directory in 123-reg this is the root.

the site seems to upload successfully except for the cgi-scripts, kind of annoying since I have another site using 123-reg and also using the same settings which uploads fine........ argh!!

OK.

Your settings look right to me. Essentially the same as this post http://community.actinic.com/showpos...1&postcount=46 which is what worked the last time we went through this.

If 755 doesn't work on the cgi-bin try 777. Some servers need different settings to work.

Other than that I'd be asking the host what's going on. That's what you're paying them for.
