    SMTP and google mail

    Hi,
I am having issues with SMTP and google mail. I changed the MX records in my hosting cpanel, google recognises the changes. I changed the smtp to localhost and added my e-mail address and password

The 'SMTP server' address entered in the 'Web | Network Setup' is incorrect, or not a valid SMTP server.
    Possible Solutions:
    1) Try "localhost" as the "SMTP Server"
    2) Check the "SMTP Server" host name, user name and password with your server host, then correct the details in 'Web | Network Setup'
    3) Check your firewall settings

    Actinic Mail Test completed successfully
    server: passed
    connection: passed
    sockets: passed
    communications: failed
    authorisation: failed
    message: 535 Incorrect authentication data

I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Any indications please?

If you're using "localhost" as your SMTP server in the Actinic Network Setup then that is the name of the outgoing mail server on your web-hosting account.

This is nothing to do with Google, which is why your google username / password aren't recognised.

Try unchecking the Username and Password Required setting in Network Setup.

If that doesn't work perhaps you need a username / password that matches what your web-hosting requires.

Thanks, I changed the password to my domain configured password and got this:

      Actinic Mail Test completed successfully
      server: passed
      connection: passed
      sockets: passed
      communications: failed
      authorisation: passed
      message: Sender verify failed

      Why would communications fail?

I initially tried with my domain e-mail smtp setup but could not get it to work.

I tried unchecking username and pass required and got the same error. I tried using the domain username and pass and also the google username and pass, always the same error. I am really stumped, could it be something with my host?

I changed the smpt to smtp.gmail.com and when I test Actinic hangs on testing cgi script settings

Edit: after a few mins I got this:

          Actinic Mail Test completed successfully
          server: passed
          connection: failed
          sockets: passed
          communications: failed
          authorisation: failed
          message: Connection timed out

Your hosting may not allow you to send mail using scripts via another gateway such as Google Mail.

The "Sender verify failed" may be because the email address you've set up in Settings / Business Settings / Company/Contact isn't a <user>@mydomain.com one. Your servers email system may be set up to reject sending emails that don't have a reply-to that comes from your own domain.

I checked with my host, nothing on their end should...

Just double checked my business settings e-mail address, yes that was a typo, works fine now. Silly error not spotted first time

                Thanks
