    FTP troubles

    Hi,

I've just downloaded the Actinic 30-day trial to experiment with the FTP uploading as I'm potentially going to be handling hosting for a client who has an Actinic website.

Currently, I'm just trying to upload the demo website to my server (Debian), and I'm having some issues. I get through to the stage where it has detected the location of the root directory and cgi-bin directories, but when I try to proceed, it gives the error shown in the screenshot attached - "An error occurred while sending an HTTP request to the webserver."

Any ideas on what might be wrong? Server is definitely not down.

    Many thanks in advance.

Sorry. My crystal ball is broken today. A url where we can see the problem is a good starting point.

Who is your host? - Self hosted on a a VM
Is it unix or windows hosting? - Linux
Is the permission on the cgi-bin set to 755? - when this is set to 755, I receive a different error, that my ftpuser does not have access to write to this directory, because it won't.
Is the permission on the acatalog folder set to 777? - Yes
Is this your first upload? Has it worked in the past? - First upload
Have you compacted the database in the housekeeping menu? N/A
Have you changed the cgi number in network setup and tried to reupload? No
Have you run the network wizard? what was the result? - Fail

There is no URL to show you anything - just attempting to upload to a bare domain for the moment and, as the upload won't work, there's nothing there at present.

Presumably somebody must have encountered that error message when the host wasn't down, and thus would have an idea about what else might be causing this.

            From the sticky:

Along with answers to the above, please post your network settings (with usernames and passwords removed). You can do this by going to Web - Network Setup - Export, exporting them to a notepad file and then copy pasting from that notepad file directly into the forum. NB: If you are a pre V8 user, you need to go into Advanced > Network setup to find the same thing.

By providing this information, you can be assured of receiving the fastest help possible.

one of the things actinic checks is that the website domain is correct. If it doesn't exist then it will throw up the error you're getting.

Aha, well I was doing it through the wizard, where I actually input the domain there and it seemed to pick it up. I'll try instead filling out the details in the network settings instead of going through the wizard and see if that makes any difference.
