    What email client???

My domain is registered with 123, my hosting is with sellerdeck and I currently use ms outlook via office 2007 to send and receive email.
My office disk is now dead. I have been quoted 3k yes 3k for a company to setup office 365 on two PC's with my three @harrisontelescopes.co.uk email addresses.

The office 365 business route is complex with various steps including setting up a Microsoft account, payment is only via cards not direct debit, business version requires windows 10 pro and a code is needed in the website so Microsoft can see you are the owner...

Is there a simple way to receive and send emails that is affordable?
I've looked at thunderbird but lots of glitches are reported, maybe there is another easy to use client out there...Thank you

While I cannot help you directly Ed, as I no longer do any kind of IT support, £3k is excessive unless there are other items in their quote. I would think that it is a company who does not want the work (it's a tactic I used to use too).

What you are asking for is perfectly reasonable.and if it cost more than a few hundred pounds then I'd be surprised - perhaps look for another IT support company?

Thanks Goz yes I was shocked and expected a few hundred pounds. It is simply basic email I want as in my current old outlook version.
I use it to reply to customer enquiries ect nothing special

Hi Ed, I can't help you technically but can offer one snippet that you might find useful. We ditched MS Outlook around 10 years ago due to reliability issues and its' complexity, although we do still use Office 365 for other software. Instead we switched to MYOFFICE.NET for all of our email, calendars and CRM and still use it. I am not affiliated, but it may be worth a look as they do a free trial. It's simple and inexpensive. Importantly, their support is very good.

Which port numbers are you after Ed? There are some commonly used port numbers - it may be those?

Thanks Goz I have found all the ports 25 and 110 and usernames and passwords but sadly myoffice.net email simply will not connect.
Their support suggested I contact sellerdeck my host to see if the third party is being blocked.
              Nothing is simple!

It's not as simple as using 25 and 110.

It does depend on whether you are using POP or IMAP and also the use of SSL etc.

Instead of 25 try using 587

I used the exact settings from the working outlook, I assumed they should be the same. Tried 587 and 995 still no luck.

Its pop and I wonder if this kind of charge can create a delay as it propagates?

                        OK.

The default POP port is 110 but it is 995 if you are using SSL/TLS

SMTP ports are 25 (I never use this as many ISP block it as an anti-spam measure); 587 (which is the one I tend to use); 465 (if 587 doesn't work).

There are other settings that can affect this but only looking through the documentation for myoffice.net - can Jeff provide the settings he uses?

                            Hi Ed, Goz,
Sorry I only just saw your last posts, but really glad you've got it working Ed.

We use MyOffice software with HostingUK as our email provider, and Sellerdeck seems to work with that OK. I don't really want to publish our settings on here, but If you need further assistance contact me directly via PM and I will help if I can.

Thanks Jeff all working fine now, thank you for pointing me in that direction. I was feeling trapped into the 365 route with all its complexity looming.
