As ever, I haven't a scoobie as to whether this matters or not for my site which is on a 1&1 dedicated managed server. Does it?
Some time ago, we informed you that we would no longer be supporting PHP version 4 so that we could ensure our systems are always meeting the latest technical and security-related requirements.
Starting 1/8/2013, we are planning to successively phase out PHP version 4 on our servers. Shortly before the deactivation, we will inform you once again about the period in which your product will be affected by this deactivation.
Please note that we will already start to prepare our systems from 17/6/2013. As this might affect your systems that are currently running on PHP 4, please check your systems as soon as possible.
PHP version 4 will still be available to you during this period (17/6/2013 until 1/8/2013) and you will be able to switch back to PHP version 4 in case of problems.
Please refer to the following link for instructions: http://faq.1and1.co.uk/search/go.php?t=e792359 To make this migration as easy as possible for you and to avoid complications due to the change to our systems, we are offering two possibilities.
You can either migrate to PHP version 5.2 first (which we will continue to support until 2014), or you can migrate directly to the latest PHP version 5.4.
We recommend migrating directly to PHP 5.4 if this is a possibility for you. By doing so, you need to edit your code just once and avoid additional work (migration from PHP version 5.2 to version 5.4).
We also recommend performing the migration to the latest PHP version 5.4 as soon as possible.
