Uploading actinic via local network

Our website is about to be hosted in-house. Can I upload the catalog via the network to the Linux server. I have network access to the Linux server via Samba from my Windows workstation.

As far as i can make out there seems to be no other way except FTP to upload Actinic - is this right?

Any help much appreciated.

You can manually create the files and upload them via whatever method you like but this is tedious. See the Program and Help file for "Advanced | Generate Web Site" and "Advanced | Generate Scripts".

Are you sure you won't have FTP access to your own Linux server?

This is usually an out-of-the box feature in most Linuxes and is much preferable to manually uploading.

Thanks Norman - yes I can get FTP access but I thought it would be quicker to utilise the network to upload.

So, does the upload have to be done via FTP for it to be automatic (rather than manual)?

FTP is the way to go if you have it. It is the only way to do an automated upload.

Sure there's a bit more chit-chat type overhead using FTP but it'll still be blindingly fast over a LAN and you'll have nothing to do other than click the "Update" button.

Many of us use a local Windows system (often the same system as Actinic is running on) as a test server and these still run Apache, Perl and use FTP as the upload mechanism - just to transfer the files from one bit of the same disk drive to another.

This allows one to fully test a store right through checkout and order download so this is a tried and tested route.
