    cgi url configuration frustrating

I have purchased actinic for my business and am having a very hard time uploading it I am on blueyonder broadband and they do not seem to be able to help me. I have set up my own cgi-bin and set the permission to 755 and set it to read write and execute so it is uploading the files it then comes to the URL of the cgi-bin I have tried many different varies of this hoping to come across the right one but it will not accept it.
I do not know the format or have any idea what to do next and blueyonder can not help with it does anyone know the format or can give me any helpful suggestions as it is so frustrating not to be able to get any further.
    thanking you.

I'm not quite sure what the problem you're describing is.

Perl scripts are only allowed on blueyonders 'advanced' service. is that what you have ?

YES I HAVE THE ADVANCED SEVICE I ASKED FOR THE CGI URL THAT I NEED TO UPLOAD THE ACTINIC BUT THEY SAID IT WAS FOR ME TO FIND OUT. I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO FIND OUT THE CGI URL OR WHAT FORMAT IT IS IN ie: http://your server/cgi-bin
I have tried many different formats but I can not seem to find the right one.

They're website is quite helpful really:

        http://help-dev.blueyonder.co.uk/html/web/perl.shtml

It says that any perl can be run in any directory but does suggest creating a cgi-bin one.

If you haven't done yet, create the cgi-bin directory and then run the actinic network wizard. If that doesn't work, post the results here and we'll see of someone can work out what's wrong.

I have created a cgi-bin and this is fine I have tried running the actinic network wizard and this is where I start running into problems. Everything is fine until it asks for the Cgi-bin Url it says that this is incorrect and to check the Cgi-bin Url I do not know what they mean by this or what it is. How would I find this out as blueyonder say it is not for them to find out.

If you've created the cgi-bin directory in your home directory, then the cgi-bin url should be:

            or could be .com, etc.

I have tried that and it still does not accept it I put in
              http://www.kcsceramics.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/_cgi_bin/

I have named the cgi-bin '_cgi_bin' it is in the htdocs folder I have noticed other people have had trouble with blueyonder uploading as well.
              Have you any other suggestions.

The url you've entered looks right. If I click the link I get a 403 permission denied error, which suggests that the directory does exist at that url.

All I can suggest at this point is that you log a support call with Actinic here: http://www.actinic.co.uk/support/register.htm

You might also want to consider moving your hosting to someone who provides support and understands what they're doing. there are a quite a few members of this forum who can provide reasonable hosting deals.

                    Try http://www.pinbrookhosting.co.uk/

Jo moorcroft (?) spends some time helping on these forums and they'll definitely be able to help you with any actinic hosting problems.

They're not as cheap as some, but then the support and service should be good.
