    SMTP problem?

    Hi,

Apologies if this seems like i am going over old ground - i have tried going through the past threads relating to this subject and am confused.

We have a web-site which is running on-line fine. I can receive orders and send response e-mails without any problem and the automated mail on ordering also runs without a hitch.

However, i recently had trouble uploading my site and apparently something like 14 scripts were missing although all of the pages seemed to go up OK. As a result the upload left all the web pages but no logging in, searching or cart functionality.

I then asked our web designer to reload the site from their end and it went up fine.

We have now tried running a test under Advanced>>Network Setup

    The result is as follows:

The computer you specified as your mail server is not a valid mail (SMTP) server. Check the computer name or address and try again.

    Mail server messages:

    220 mail.scl.co.uk ESMTP Sendmail 8.12.10/8.12.10; Sat, 6 Mar 2004 11:03:24 GMT

    Failed 1 - Response: 220 mail.scl.co.uk ESMTP Sendmail 8.12.10/8.12.10; Sat, 6 Mar 2004 11:03:24 GMT

    These are my settings:

    HTTPPROXYMODE 0
    HTTPPROXYADDRESS localhost
    HTTPPROXYPORT 8080
    HTTPPROXYUSER
    HTTPPROXYPASSWORD
    FTPPROXYMODE 0
    FTPPROXYADDRESS localhost
    FTPPROXYPORT 21
    FTPPROXYUSER MyFTPProxyUser
    FTPPROXYPASSWORD MyFTPProxyPassword
    SCRIPTID 1
    SCRIPTEXT .pl
    SMTPHOST localhost
    WEBSITEURL http://www.centremaps.co.uk/
    IGNOREPASSIVEERRORS true
    PATHTOPERL /usr/bin/perl
    CATALOGURL http://www.centremaps.co.uk/acatalog/
    CGIBINURL http://www.centremaps.co.uk/cgi/acatalog/
    PATHFROMCGITOCATALOG ../../htdocs/acatalog/
    CODEBASE ./
    FTPHOST ftp.scl.co.uk
    FTPUSERNAME *********
    FTPPASSWORD *********
    PATHTOCGIBIN /cgi/acatalog/
    USEPASSIVEFTP false
    FTPPATHFROMCGITOCATALOG /acatalog/

Is there any way that one of these could have somehow got changed between being installed as an ACD file and trying to upload?

From the threads i have followed so far, it sounds as though there is a problem with SMTP at SCL but if this is the case then howcome the site is running fine after an upload from a different location.

In case it helps, host is SCL and I have tried running the test both at work (on a btconnect account) and from home (on a pipex account).

Any help would be brilliant as we want to upload changes on quite a regular basis at the moment and we don't want to keep going back to our designer.

    Thanks in advance

    Andy

Why not ask your Designers (the ones with the working system) to send you their export of Network Settings to compare with yours.

Also ask them to do the Network test.

Also check the version numbers (Help / ABout) on both systems.

Let us know thhe results of that lot and we'll be further on.

Finally, if your site worked before there may just be an ittermittent problem at your ISP's site. Many e-mail servers are being deluged with virus generated mail at the moment.
