Invalid path for images and style sheet

Try putting the following into 'path from CGI-BIN to acatalog Directory..'

/public_html/acatalog/

Thta's what i have on a similar setup.

I do switch off the password protection whilst uploading, and I do have the path to cgi-bin set to /public_html/cgi_bin. Still no dice.

How do you "switch off" the password protection? As far as I know you need to remove the .htaccess file from the server to make sure it doesn't interfere in any way. Wouldn't surprise me if the htaccess is causing the blank error message when using the wizard.

Also, if you still can't use the wizard try and see if you can use the "test" option on the "Advanced Network Setup" screen. Perhaps it can at least give you an error message to work with and go from there.

Yay! It works! You were right about the htaccess file Yvonne - when I deleted that, it worked fine. Strange though, because htaccess was completely empty. Oh well, it's working now, that's the main thing.

This is really weird. It's gone back to how it was - I haven't even uploaded in the meantime. I'm guessing the scripts must be getting confused, perhaps when I set a password for the acatalog folder they can't access it, so they try appending /acatalog/ again? I guess I'll just have to go without security.

Now I'm confused too! What has gone back to how it was? The network settings, the error message or what? Now don't panic! Take a deep breath and then try to explain, slowly, what isn't working.

I took the password off again (and tried deleting .htaccess), but it made no difference.

Every time I try to run the wizard I seem to get a different error message. I'm fiddling around with the control panel settings for my webspace to try and make sure there is no security thing messing it up.

First, you can't use htaccess with Actinic, not ever, it will not work. Don't even try it. Make sure you have it removed completely, every instance of it, both from the actinic directory and the public_html directory and any other directory that Actinic may interact with.

Btw, you haven't by any chance made any changes to any of the Perl scripts?

What I suggest you do next is to go to your Site1 folder on your hard drive and look for all the generated perl scripts. They will have file names such as ca000001.pl etc. The multiple zero scripts are generated. Remove every last one of them. Then log into your server and go to your cgi-bin. Now remove all the Actinic perl scripts from it too. I have learnt from experience that these generated scripts can cause trouble even after the original problem has been solved.

Now, before you try a site refresh, open the Network Setup Wizard. Then follow my earlier instructions by checking both boxes so you start with a clean slate. See if this works. If not, write down the error message and post it and we go from there.

you may have to use the command -la on your ftp program in order to see all your hidden files inc htaccess files

Hmmm. I deleted everything from the website, and all of the generated scripts from the site1 folder. I then tried removing the .htaccess file, but it keeps popping back automatically. I managed to successfully run the wizard all the way through, and re-uploaded the site, but the results are still the same: images and style disappear in the shopping cart. I guess I need to contact my hosting company and ask them to allow me to remove .htaccess?

If you set htaccess from your admin control panel you need to remove it the same way. If that doesn't work then yes, you'll have to talk to your ISP and have them remove it but it shouldn't be necessary.
