Owain, I think the reference is to the domain name/web host rather than the service connection provider. After all, people can change hosting company and continue to run their software (though reading this forum, there are a few problems that pop up) and none has reported needing to relicense their Actinic software.Bill

Actinic License Transfers - is it possible ?
Good evening and please bare with me as this is my first post to the forum !
I've tried to sell on eBay a copy of Actinic Catalog v.7 which we no longer require. The software was purchased from new from an Actinic Reseller late last year and as a company we registered and used the software (site also hosted by the Actinic Reseller) until the 1st June when we 'closed' our Actinic Shop. Now surplus to requirements, we listed the software on eBay, was contacted by Actinic to provide them with verification details etc. to ensure we weren't selling counterfeit software - we gladly provided this information. In a very negative email, Actinic have come back saying we can't resell / transfer the license ? I've gone back to Actinic in a hope they can rethink their decision but I'd welcome any suggestions ? If I get no joy I'll see if I can raise the topic at some of the seminar sessions at Internet World 2005 in London next week.

"There's no such thing as bad publicity" as the saying goes, so I don't think actinic will mind you raising it at a seminar or two. I doubt it'll be on topic though so I wonder if you'll be given much of an opportunuty to discuss it.
Actinic doesn't so much sell the software as sell you a non-transferable license to use it. You've used it and under their terms of use that's pretty much it.
Most actinic users, partners and resellers are happy with the software and the terms of use so I doubt if you'll get much sympathy here on the forum. If you have a beef with Actinic then you're only real hope is to take it up with them directly.

I've been wondering about this transferring issue a bit lately.
I currently use V7 and V6 Actinic Catalogue for my 2 businesses. As business 2 (V6) is about to wrap up for good soon (closed for order back in Feb) I've not been using it at all really.
However, our other (3rd) business is 15 months old now and is getting really busyIt could do with some store software!
I've been wondering whether I could use my copy of V6 for this or not?
I appreciate the issues with the licence. Does that count even if I am still using it but for a different business of my own, I wonder?Tracey

Tracey - I would hazard a guess you are OK to close down the existing site using your registered v6 copy and start a new site. Having a quick trawl though the licence terms it does not state you cannot close and start again
"Actinic Software may only be used lawfully if you have obtained a licence key from Actinic or you are using it for evaluation purposes as set out in this agreement. If you are using Actinic Software without complying with the preceding condition you will pay Actinic the sum of £2,000 for each web site operating using your improperly obtained copy of Actinic Software"
The licence key allows you to create 1 shop - so as long as the licence key is used on just the 1 site then you should be OK. The salient point being "you" IE the person purchasing the key.
It goes on to state you can not:
" rent, lease, grant a security interest in, or otherwise transfer rights to Actinic Software;" and..
"permit other individuals (other than your agent on your behalf) to use Actinic Software;"
... which prevents Neil selling the licence key on
Can someone from Actinic please clarify this situation for us all?

Problem Solved !
I have resolved the problem today with Actinic - they were very understanding. Many thanks.

I am currently looking at the new version of Actinic Business for an upcoming website so would be interested in purchasing the license if anyone has one they no longer wish to use.

Chris,
If a purchased a copy of Businesss and built a site, then - having been so impressed with the software - purchased a copy of Multi User to build another site (for the same company, but a different domain name), could I transfer the Business site into multi-user?
If so would I be permitted to do anything with the copy of Business other than let it gather dust?
Phil
