Is it possible to password protect Internet Explorer?

Hi - i'm getting fed up of staff taking the p*ss looking at non-work websites. I'm looking for technical rather than contractual suggestions!

    Any advice warmly welcomed.
Trying to squeeze my moneys worth out of V7 - but not for much longer!

I use the admistrator settings to limit my kids - they can only look at CBBC any other website needs a password.

You may be able to configure your software firewall to bar all sites with exceptions.

May be worth considering using one of the nanny programs and setting the sites allowed and block everything else

Treat them like children and you should find something that works. Try telling them that Santa will not be coming if they look at non work websites

One easy way is to change your "hosts" settings. this is the tool that initially controls the "name to IP address lookup" - using this utility, you can tell your computer that "www.ebay.co.uk" is now found on YOUR computer (127.0.0.1) - when any of your staff looks for ebay, it goes looking on YOUR computer and comes back saying "page not found"

pop over to a site called hostsman and then download the programm "Hostsman"

another very good site is http://hosts-file.net/ - they offer a "hosts" file with lots of advertisers and so on in the list, all pointing to 127.0.0.1
Porn and malware sites also get into the list.

if theres any sites YOU actually want to visit, then find the site in the list, comment out the line and that site will be allowed to access.
Youv'e only got to look at the IE history to see which sites thay vist and over time, all the "interesting ones" will become restricted.
occasionally some of those sites are essential even though they are in the list, again just comment them out.
Its a brilliant way of stopping those "flash adverts" that distract you when visiting sites.
