I spentfour days explaining to the designer/architect/engineer in Egypt why I wanted seperate cable runs and circuit breakers for the lights and power sockets - and yet more cable and breakers for the AC.

Biggest laugh was I insisted they earth the circuits (as in make the metal water pipe connection) and they came back with design and pricing for building a brine pit and installing 40m of copper rod - turns out the building owner has not provided any earthing system for the building - and that turns out to be normal. No wonder they still have power problems despite surplus generating capacity.

Ahhh. Middle East power standards. I have a panoramic view from my balcony in Turkey. I've lost count of the number of times I've seen a pole mounted 33Kv transformer blowing up. Beautiful blue flash followed by a nice orange afterglow as the falling oil incinerates everything underneath. If it's less than a few Km away you can even hear the 50Hz brrrrRRRPPPP!!!BOOM at it detonates. Guess where I never park!

It has rained where i live every single day for 6 weeks now. Tonight was the heaviest i have seen to date, with thunder also. It's quite incredible the rainfall we're having across the UK, makes a complete mockery of 4 seasons, we have 2 at most.
