I was not aware that customer details were stored on the server or seems to be. Or have I got this wrong and they are deleted once downloaded into Actinic.
This sets ujp a server on your pc and then allows you to access the pc with actinic installed on it via a browser, it does some fancy database stuff and actinic does not need to be running.
this is for ever changing, with new plugins and the such
The reason people were chatting about vpn and all that other jazz, is that you'll need to access the computer that you hve actinic installed on in order to get to your customer data.
hamachi is a convenient way to do this, as well as the port forwarding methods. Hamaxhi is platform agnostic, so this means that you mac people can get to your orders too, and linux peeps.
Looking at the demo, where is the option to download orders? ie you are away and want to retrieve orders from the website. I know it looks at the major pc with Actinic installed - but I was assuming that this also gave you remote access to new orders not yet downloaded into Actinic? A major asset for offices away from home.
Can you print or even better email a packing list from the remote laptop.
(I know you said you couldn't process orders, but we would need to get the packing lists off to the warehouse somehow)
If the PC with Actinic installed is connected to the Net via Broadband, does it need to be switched on permanently. Holidays etc ..... lots of days (don't know if PC could cope???)
Please Note Gabe error on site:

The demo running on a computer is a real working Actinic. The user that logs in is a guest. The admin user can trigger downloads (and indeed uploads) remotely. I had to limit the user to a guest, becasue the admin user can do all sorts of things that would change the configuration of the system and possibly cause login problems for guests, like change the password for example. If you would like an example of that, then I can arrange one?

A packing list and indeed order completion is in the works. I have clients that simply print the page, and use the indicators, until this is complete. My packing lists are in PDF format, and are very compact. They can be printed, saved, or emailed. As soon as this is available, i'll be posting it up here.

Yes, in order that it act as a server, it would ahve to be on all the time. Actinic does not ahve to be loaded, an empty desktop would do it. My demo machine has been running for 6 months or more. it has never been rebooted. You dont have to have the monitor switched on, to save you on some energy.

Ouch! i'll get on that asap. something went wrong there! doesnt look good does it, lol.
I'm probably being a bit slow on the uptake so perhaps you could clarify things for me.
What we are looking for is the ability to monitor and process orders from at least two different locations. i.e. let's say one user in Birmingham and one in Manchester. Both need to be able to see all orders placed, their current status and process any orders which can be shipped. Obviously, the order status showing 'shipped' then needs to be seen by the other user to avoid duplication.
(apologies for the slow response, the forum pushed the thread down)
Actinet can do that, and thats what it was designed for, however, it cannot 'complete' the order remotely yet. You'll have to have someone do that sitting at the Actinic computer.
- Orders are in one seamless list, that loads dynamcally (fast!)
- Orders are now colour coded as in Actinic.
- Fresh, Glossy Vista system theme.
- Boatloads of minor fixes.
- Data Export (csv/spreadsheet) feature is about 75% complete.
- Complete(!) orders
- emails sent via Actinic are shown in Actinet.
