I believe they actually relate to an alphabetical incremental release of code changes for the Developers to use and track.
From memory:
8.5.1 HFUA
The 8 refers to version number
The 5 refers to database updates i.e. different database structure
The 1 refers to final patch/version release number, incrementally
I would guess that the 4 letters refer to their internal developer tracking
i.e. The very first one would be something like AAAA and each one would refer to an element of the software build e.g. first letter refers to the GUI, second to script changes, third to login changes and so on....
I'm sure someone at Actinic would happily share their internal development techniques, processes and tracking methodsFergus Weir - teclan ltd

Maybe.....
or......
A is for "A bug found"
B is for "Bug fixed"
C is for "Can't see the bug"
D is for "Didn't you already fix the bug!"
E is for "Evidently there are more bugs than we thought"
F is for "Fixed it. At last"
G is for "Great. One more patch should do it"
H is for "Help. Bugs are everywhere"
I is for "Infestation!"
J is for "Just stop with the bugs already.....!"
K is for "Kill the bugs! Kill the damn bugs!!"
etc etc ....
This could be applied to most software developers. It's a bugs life!Fergus Weir - teclan ltd
