    Pondering the consequence of meaning

    extract from http://www.asylumunlimited.co.uk/actichat/:

13:44:01 ‹Gabriel› want to hear something really surreal?
    14/11/2007 13:44:10 ‹Titch› go on
14/11/2007 13:44:15 ‹Gabriel› earlier i was looking into computer graphics and how they had advanced.
14/11/2007 13:44:22 ‹Gabriel› they now look very real.
14/11/2007 13:44:43 ‹Gabriel› based on the laws of computing, they will only double in speed and accuracy, every 10 years.
14/11/2007 13:45:05 ‹Gabriel› but at some point, they will become lifelike to the point of being indistinguisable from our vision.
14/11/2007 13:45:21 ‹Gabriel› this is a fact, based on what has happened previously in computing.
    14/11/2007 13:45:30 ‹Gabriel› i started to think about this.
14/11/2007 13:45:41 ‹Gabriel› did you know that time in our universe is actually granular?
14/11/2007 13:45:55 ‹Gabriel› meaning that there are universal 'ticks' in which time elapses.
14/11/2007 13:46:11 ‹Gabriel› so small that we need rediculous equipment to even see them.
14/11/2007 13:46:11 ‹Titch› Gabe step away from the computer...........take a deep breath annndddddddd relax
    14/11/2007 13:46:19 ‹tracey› fs...talk about a lag at my end!
    14/11/2007 13:46:21 ‹Gabriel› wait wait.
    14/11/2007 13:46:25 ‹Titch› :-o
    14/11/2007 13:46:31 ‹Gabriel› now.
14/11/2007 13:46:58 ‹Gabriel› if you take time and slice it in half, and keep doing that, eventually, you'll end up with a degree of time you cannot divide.
14/11/2007 13:47:06 ‹Gabriel› this is the quentum tick of the universe.
    14/11/2007 13:47:17 ‹Gabriel› *quantum
14/11/2007 13:47:41 ‹Gabriel› and in the computer you re using now, the hardware clock ticks the instructions past the cpu at a suitably fast speed.
    14/11/2007 13:47:43 ‹tracey› wtf?
    14/11/2007 13:47:50 ‹Titch› gabe ur wasted man..........get a book written
14/11/2007 13:47:59 ‹Gabriel› so i put it to you that the universe is generated. inside a computer, in real time, and you are all merely simulations.
    14/11/2007 13:48:02 ‹tracey› pmsl
14/11/2007 13:48:21 ‹Gabriel› all the universe is a vast simulation.
14/11/2007 13:48:26 ‹Titch› but do i get a long black coat and cool shades???
    14/11/2007 13:48:35 ‹tracey› hahaha
    14/11/2007 13:48:42 ‹tracey› ooh...do I get a white rabbit tattoo?
14/11/2007 13:48:54 ‹Gabriel› based on the principle that computers will eventually reach the point of being able to run such a simulation, and that the universe is granular, proving external timing constructs.
    14/11/2007 13:49:09 ‹Titch› nnnnnoooooooooooooooooo
14/11/2007 13:49:17 * tracey stops reading for fear of overloading her fragile brain
14/11/2007 13:49:19 ‹Titch› this has happend before and will happen again
14/11/2007 13:49:21 ‹Gabriel› in fact, we might even be a simulation, running insude an infinnite number of host simulations.
    14/11/2007 13:49:25 ‹Titch› paradox coming up
    14/11/2007 13:49:36 * tracey shuts her eyes
    14/11/2007 13:49:39 ‹Gabriel› lol.
    14/11/2007 13:50:17 * tracey peeks...is it over yet?
14/11/2007 13:50:21 ‹Titch› right suppose i best actually go have at look at this fault ;(
14/11/2007 13:50:28 ‹Gabriel› in fact, computers are becoming so fast, that they are capable of simple precognition. the pentium 4 chip for example, can guess the next calculation based on the actions of concurrent threads, known also as 'hyperthreading'.
    14/11/2007 13:50:29 ‹tracey› yeh..go do some work, ya slacker
    14/11/2007 13:50:31 ‹tracey› hehe
14/11/2007 13:51:05 ‹Gabriel› so theoretically, at some piont, they will be capable of pre-calculating an entire universe of physics and energy.
    14/11/2007 13:51:07 ‹Gabriel› ok i'm done.
14/11/2007 13:51:18 * Gabriel ponders the consequence of meaning.
14/11/2007 13:51:29 ‹tracey› well, when someone else can decide what I'm going to cook for dinner, let me know!
    14/11/2007 13:51:38 ‹Gabriel› pizza.

it was no wind up. its a real and viable explanation for the universe.

i just thought it was so odd, that i had to post it here as well.

In an infinite universe there are infinite viable explanations as discreet and disparate as the next and each other. The main issues are when you introduce religion into the equation or a god (this could be related in modern terms to the webmaster)... how does a finite being exist in an infinite space. Mathematically it is not able.

Hyperthreading is very aptly named with the current ideas about string theory (not the Goodies song btw) on how the universe is formed.

Thats enough for this time of morning - I am off to play Frogger.

The universe is not infinite, it curved and the string theory is just money for old rope!

I prefer the theory that we are all just figments of Gabe's imagination - the only way he can keep sane (ish)

Ohh frogger, now were talking -

As for the universe, it will still be here when im gone, as for computers all the time we have microsoft then i doubt we have to worry about it, someone will still need to be here to turn it off and back on

                            try this then

a tatty piece of string went into a bar and the barman said "are you a piece of string as we don't serve them"

"I'm afraid not" replied the string
