No, the crap is really Norton - got you by the b*lls. You will probably need to go and delete keys from the registry to get rid of it - that's what I had to do.

Armed with a disk image just in case I deleted all keys relating to Norton, Symantec and LiveUpdate.

I've never had Norton, i refuse to have it in the same house as me. I think it is sorted now, i make it 18 reboots. Seems like just as you decide to get rid of it, it sorts itself out. I think PCguard needed uninstalling, but i'm buggered if i know what that was doing for me now.

              Got our the other day

uninstalled the cr*p (norton), then used their removal tool. rebooted. prompted me to buy their new one (which is said f**k o*f) and then went happily and installed kasperky (spelling).

installation is fine. PC is quicker than before but the only that i find annoying is the firewall. it does not seem to take in the "allow's" that i do and every time it asks again

I just tried to download adaware se personal from c/net and the Russian thingy sensed a virus in the download. Is it being incredibly good or is it the new Norton?

Having now had the Kaspersky Internet Security suite running for a week or 2, I have noticed it causing me one problem.

On a site using Java to stream live data (stock market tickers), the big K brings the usually instanteous screen updates to a crawl.
Have tested by viewing same site with K on and off, its definately the security suite thats causing the slowdown.

May not affect many, but if you are using K, and are finding that certain sites have suddenly gone slow, try temporarily switcking K off, and see if that makes a difference (right hand click on the K icon in the bottom right of screen, and select 'pause protection' and click on the first option).

I haven't tried it, but have you tried adding the relevant sites to Kasperky's list of trusted sites?

                        Hi Mark
Yes, this has occured to me, but I haven't fathomed out how to do it yet!!

When you open the trusted zone option, there is no obvious way of adding a URL that I can see.
It asks you to set rules and objects, but no real clue how to do this.
                        Its not very intuitive.

I shall plow through help to see if I can fathom it out, but there dosen't seem to be an option to add 'trusted sites', just 'objects' to ignore, whatever they are!!

                          Try:

Double click on icon bottom right of screen.
Click on "Protection" bar to open "sub-menu" on left hand side.
                          Click on Web anti-virus.
Roll over and click on "configure".
You should see security level which is probably at "recommended" (slider bar in the middle).
                          Click on customize button.
                          Click "general" tab.
You can add trusted URLs in bottom half of dialog box.

PS for anyone else thinking of buying - we have had it installed for a week now and it is the best we have ever used by quite a long way.

                            Thanks for that Mark.
Whilst adding the URL to trusted sites didn't actually solve the problem, at least I know how to get there now.
The solution was in the same area though - changing scan method from buffering to streaming did the trick.
                            Thanks again.

Anyone any ideas why Kaspersky blocks me accessing 'localhost' on my system but I can access '127.0.0.1' ok? Any suggestions on fixing it?
                              Cheers

You could try calling their technical support. I've just had a friend who I recommended Kaspersky to calling me up and telling me how wonderful their support is. They helped him with all the problems he had (15 viruses, old files, deleted files, etc).
