looking for a weeks holiday accomodation for my daughter and her friends

My daughter and her friends (there's up to 10 in total and both guy's and gall's) are about to go to Uni this coming summer and want to go on holiday with her "current friends" before they all go and get a load of new ones. Its the friends that she's had for the last 10 yrs or so and they are all "village kids"

I say "up to 10" because as you can imagine, getting all 10 to agree where they go on hols would be a miracle

They looked at going abroad, but to be honest, they are not "that sort of kids" - they are not after that 18-30 scene, all they really want is to go to the beach somewhere in the UK (or abroad). sit around and reminisce about the last 10yrs or so.

They happily get together and cook for each other, buy stupid presents for each other, sleep overs, help each other with exams and "life's little problems" - think more "cheers" not 18-30

Being 18, they don't have loads of dosh, just a great friendship. but she's having a problem finding places in the UK that will accept a group of 18yr olds. (it seems they all get tarred with the same brush) They all have part time jobs etc, two or three of them (incl daughter) has a horse etc so I feel they are some of the more "responsible kids"

does anyone know of "nice" friendly accommodation they could rent for 7/10 days to "say goodbye to each other" - they would love the beach, of course, and they would love there to be other things to do around the area - the accommodation would probably be "two or more rooms" not a single one

I've always been loathed to be a guarantor for them, but ... I've got enough faith in their responsible attitude to life to act as a guarantor if that's what it really takes.

they would end up traveling by train or coach, (they don't have enough driving licences between them) so accessibility to the end destination would be helpful.

they would of course consider more sunny climes, especially if there was the opportunity of easyjet type flights available

They have a budget in mind and when its multiplied by the group, its a "reasonable amount" and it would definitely be self-catering

Has anyone got any serious suggestions please, a private email to me rather than a posting on the web would be much appreciated. They are based near Nottingham, so most places would be acceptable.

A-levels are in June, so my guess is it July/August wer'e looking at.

    what do dads know

I know its only 10 hours since I posted, but it seems that there may be only 6-8 "kids" that can get together. so perhaps this has a bearing on whats potentially available.

Join the YHA - inexpensive accommodation in hundreds of interesting places, some remote & out-of-the-way.

You can sometimes book a small (say 10-12 bed hostel) for the whole week-end, for exclusive use. You get a communal kitchen and sitting area, very often little or no supervision, and you leave the place as you found it.

Research: Peak & Lake Districts, or Isle of Wight for walks & pubs; caving week-ends in Cheddar Gorge; Ironbridge for interesting museums; Devon & Cornwall; see website.

OK, as we posted at the same time I'll edit that to say 6-8 bed hostel, and for inspiration try this page or this one.

Two things from the Norfolk Broads spring to mind

Hire a 10-12 person boat, you will probably need to hire a older boat as they can be funny about under 21's

Hire a caravan, lots of sites around here and the rest of the country, again self catering and normally three beds 1 double and two single in each caravan

Maybe the West country with a bit of Surfing

If they don't mind caravan accomodation, then they could try this place, it's right on the beach. It's one of the ones that is included in those holiday for a tenner deals you get with local papers but I think that those deals might stop around June.

But I reckon youth hostels are the answer - nice and cheap, should be good fun, or camping maybe - but that would require a car.

thanks for all the replies, most appreciated.
the kids are now trying to work out what to do next. Money is one of the most important things on their minds, pennies count as you can guess.

it was good to get the ideas, and thanks to those who emailed me privately

One final idea from me, I've been to this place with the kids and it was excellent.

                  http://www.skernlodge.com/northdevon...s_overview.asp

It's like a PGL activity center and is in a really beautiful location.

When they run summer activity weeks they charge £100 for the weeks activities plus £30 a night accomodation or £26 for a single days activities.

You can camp there as well but I don't know what the charges are for that.

They might be able to mix a couple of days activities with a weeks stay - it would be a fantastic venue for an end of school holiday. You can walk out straight onto coastal walks.

I can also vouch for Skern Lodge. My wife went on a management team building course there a couple of years ago and thought it was great.
