Never, ever use 123-reg for ANYTHING.

123-reg has been our dedicated host for many moons, but has recently bungled our dedicated host.

- They claim that the hard drive cannot mount, and is possibly corrupt. They want me to go and collect it. wtf?

- They also ummed and aahd about actually getting me a new server. wtf?

- They are reluctant to even send me the drive, I'll be getting a call back later.

- The drive was not mirrored or backed up in any way. WTF??

Dont worry! i'm still here! interact-studio.co.uk has been down for days and i apologize to any of my customers for this. But its out or my hands. I'm in the process of moving my entire cadre of sites to another company.

I suggest anyone with 123-reg do the same thing today.

It's a shame that Webfusion rely on 123-reg for domain services etc, they are truly the weakest link.

to be honest Gabe, this is usual practise with DSs from the budget providers.

I know of several other providers (who have been discussed in the forum and offer DS at silly prices ie £49 pm) these prices come with strings, the trouble is you don't find out the restrictions until the services fails.

i had someone moveto me recently who had such a ds that failed, the provider said they would fix it when they had time - a week had elapsed and no progress so they took the decision to move, so who knows howlong it would have taken.

For the record 123-reg are fine for domain registration! buts thats as far as i'd taken them

Until they "confuse" your account with someone else's with the same password, thereby handing control of your domains to that other person (who luckily didn't notice) for the two weeks it took to persuade them that there really was a problem.

We are putting together some new DS plans inc 100gb and inc free online backup acct (DS backup not PC) see my sig for the new stuff over the next few weeks.

Online backups from pc include you sending us a disk for the first backup saves that first backup that takes a week

I stopped using 123 for hosting a couple of years ago as a similar thing happened to a client but to be fair they do say they don't have any automated backup sytem and provide a zip facility for you to do it manually. For domain registrations they are fine IMO.

One of our clients recently engaged a SEO 'specialist', (don't ask ).
He asked that we transfer the domain name back to 123-Reg. (don't ask ).
Problem was that when 123-Reg had originally transfered to us, they left a 'shadow' on their system.
When we unlocked the domain for them to collect, their system thought they already had it and wouldn't transfer.
Problem two was that our client could not find a brain in support that was capable of understanding the issue, (at 10p a minute, why bother?).
The only advice he was given was that it was us that where being obstructive and that he should deal with us.
You would not believe the problems that caused.
After all, 123-reg are a big company and we're just a simple design business, what would we know?
It is still in the process of being sorted out and dispite bending over backwards at our own expense to sort things out, we still have a lot of bridge building to do.
