Yuk to Mince Pies, Christmas Cake & Christmas Pudding

I'm with Kathy on this one, although Christmas cake is OK, although it is the icing more than the cake I like (not that horrible roled fondant icing that tastes like plastic)

Sort of with Kathy, I hate Mince pies, but like Xmas cake, marzipan and icing = yum, and like Xmas cake with brandy butter.

its the mincemeat and pastry mix that kills it for me

I love all this stuff. Haven't had a mince pie yet as need to make them. Have bought the crimble pud as can't be faffed doing my own, but have made the cake and hopefully, fingers crossed, will get round to icing it by the weekend. If I don't it won't matter - it's so soaked in brandy that the thing will be preserved for at least the next millienium.

Marzipan is like a worldwide institution, how could you not like marzipan? I've seen myself in supermarkets more than willing to pick up a packet of it and eat it there and then. Mmmm, think it's time to go to the shops

I LOVE Mince pies but I only like really sugary, crumbly pastry. Not a fan of short stuff really (pastry-wise )

LOVE Christmas cake as long as it's a decent one and I love Christmas pud with spicy butter (butter, sugar, mixed spice)

I had one of 'em apple pie things from MacDonalds once, the pastry was fine but the apple bits were like, 1000 degrees. I swore at the time.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news George. Back in the day an old school friend got a job in McDonalds while 'battling' (drinking, anyone?) through university. Apparently a chemical in the apple pies is hazardous to us at high temperatures, hence why they leave them sitting for 2 minutes to cool down, it's said to be illegal to supply them until they are below X degrees. At first I thought this was a wind up, so I asked the manager the next time I was there and yep, sure enough, the same story was given. We even asked on Yahoo Answers shortly after it first launched (though the question is now gone) - and several others backed up the story. Whether or not it's a joke within the company, I don't know, but I won't be eating any apple pies from McDonalds any time soon

Hmmm i recon McDonalds would be the last place i would go for an apple pie, on a rare occasion i might go there, even my little one does not think its the best thing in the world, he would rather have nando's

My mothers mince pies which she makes by following a Beeko recipe book that is years old and made with Co-op brand mincemeat are the best ever.
