postpack - spam emails

I've been discussing this with Robert and apparently every actinic website publishes a file containing all the contact details on it.

This is news to me, and I couldn't find such a thing on my websites server, but if there is then I think actinic need to look into sorting it.

i dont believe that... the email address i received the postpack spam to is not the same address as business settings email addy. Nor does the site in question use the actinic contact form. Nor was it the contact form email address which is hidden in the pl script.

I'm getting more annoyed about this - using a script to farm info that Actinic may or may not be publishing is not

and/or can be found through a Google search

my email address is not in the public domain, I will be complaining about this.

Its obvious from this thread they feel sending unwanted emails is acceptable and are going to continue with it, personally i wont be using this company which is a shame as they have many products we would use

if you unsubscribe an email address through our systems you will never receive another email from us.

thats supposed to make me feel better is it? how about you dont put me on it in the first place?

Very true George, as i said earlier i could have treated it in the same way i block viagra emails. But the reason people are angry is the method used to harvest emails, esp as several people inc myself have said the email addy being harvested is not one from their website thus the whole thing is very underhand.

Precisely - I get several a day through different sites with companies offering services but harvesting information not in the public domain is bang out of order.

Why, when I post a perfectly acceptable and useful post for members of the community to stand up against online crime, does my post get removed?

Unsolicited e-mails = Spam

Spam = Illegal

When we got the email it just reminded me that we were nearly out of packaging so we ordered lots as we always do.....from Viking Direct and got it much cheaper!!!

And then the email got binned

I too have received numerous emails from this company which although may not be be illegal is certainly not ethical. Harvesting emails and then sending unsolicited emails is is just that the four letter word: Spam. If they were selling V1agra it would amount to exactly the same.

The unfortunate part of all of this is it just goes to show that Spam does pay and is the reason behind companies doing it in the first place.

I will certainly never purchase from companies who send me spam - be that for business or personal.

Postpak is now on my blacklist.

From a marketing perspective I hope you also agree that targeting is generally much more productive, efficient and dare I say ethical than just simply hitting anyone.

Targeted marketing is brilliant. Somebody owns a Ford and you send them an email about spare Ford parts. Somebody runs Adobe Photoshop and you send them an email about your Adobe plug-ins.

Emailing Actinic users is not a focussed target campaign as many sites do not sell items that need posting or packaging - Actinic is simply a means to an end - taking money online and not necessarily shipping products to purchasers.

Just found another email in the spam filter - to the address we receive our receipt email copies i.e. not visible online anywhere. Blacklisting is easy thankfully with 1and1.

I agree with the sentiments expressed.

I won't comment about whether an email address can be gleaned from an Actinic site, as that needs looking at furher.

However, I can certainly confirm that one isn't "published" and therefore it isn't acceptable at all for people to harvest emails.

Where there is no existing business relationship, the basis of ethical email marketing is opt-in, not opt out.
