Then set the 'Pricing Model' on the product to 'Sum of Components Prices' and you will get a tick box for 'No order line for main product' ('General' panel of product details)
That will stop the main product from appearing in the shopping basket and just display the choices.
Please Note: you will need your shipping configured via ‘Zone and Class’. This will not work with ‘Simple Shipping’.
