That's true but i think most users on here started with the low priced catalog and then grew into needing multi-user and multi-sites. myself i think few new start-ups will fork out over £1000 to buy business plus which will be overkill for most starting out. they will more likely go for a monthly subscription site and stay there

The prices have probably gone up to encourage movement to Actinic (the web hosted variant). There is so many ecommerce site builders now that it's pressing both Actinic and SellerDeck much more than before. For most ecommerce products, giants like Amazon and Ebay have dominated the market. For anything that needs more specialisation than a typical Amazon reseller account, a lot of online retailers just build their own web stores and order management systems from scratch.

If you don't touch upon the Design area in SellerDeck often, there's plenty of other competing software which offer the same thing at lower rates. If you do use the Design area in SellerDeck a lot, eventually you reach the point where you might as well just build your own online shop and order management system from scratch, because these software packages do eventually have restrictions. Then again, this can be said about almost all types of development packages.

Highly unlikely as SellerDeck and Actinic are different companies who compete for business.

SD Cloud is an online solution (don't know expected public release date), well established, feature rich, enterprise level, etc. It's based on a well known existing online solution.

No pricing was announced but if I remember correctly the indication was that this is expected to be aimed at retailers wanting a high end, more service based, customised solution with hosting provided by sellerdeck therefor it's likely that this will be more expensive than sellerdeck desktop.

It seems to fit in as part of a growing move into value added services, (including consultancy at the high end) as a way to make more of the sellerdeck expertise in ecommerce.

So not a threat to sellerdeck desktop as a competing technology, more of a recognition that some larger companies will want a more scalable solution with a lot of value add opportunity (my words, not theirs, and I may not be expressing it very eloquently.)

"We" only play at e-commerce, but have had the various versions since V6 - Lee Hack gave my site a make over many years ago, and with a few of Normans add ons, + FEEFO bought from Sellerdeck each month + Sellerdeck Payments, it's suits me as I can do what I want with it myself with out too much fear of messing up and if I do have an issue, I can seek a solution on here or Jonathan Chapel @ Graphicz who hosts the site will help.

I did ask about upgrading to the latest version from 13, but to be perfectly frank was rather miffed to be told the only way to do so was to take out a support contract @ £850 + VAT.

I don't require Sellerdeck support, but Sellerdeck won't provide one without the other. That is disappointing, as most businesses will do everything they can to look after the customers they already have, but Sellerdeck sales have no desire to bespoke a package to a customers needs, they seem to me to work on squeezing as much revenue out of loyal customers as is possible.

The alternatives of course are to get involved with the free stuff, which to my surprise some very big players in my sector use, or switch to the "cloud" product, but neither will happen as I like what I have and won't ditch an old friend.

So for me, what I have will have to do for the foreseeable, it may have limitations compared to 15 and future releases, but I still think folk visit my site because what we offer is good value for money, it works for the man on the street, and very few will notice the absence of a design feature or two..... we've been heavily pressured about "mobile" and "tablet" being informed we are not compatible, but when I ask my customers about it they say the site is just fine, and we remain in exactly the same spot on Google as we have been for 5 years or more....so it does make me wonder being the cynic that I am.
