Problems migrating to a new server

Hi Norman,

It's because I've got two sites working in tandem. One on the old server and one on the new. It's the one on the old server that you can see live. The one on the new server I'm checking by altering my local hosts file on my local machine to the A records of the new server (185.217.41.93). Most pages and files seem present and correct, the scripts just don't seem to want to execute.

It'll be something quirky in those settings but I can't quite put my finger on what. Unticking perl support on that screenshot had a big impact in that it uploaded a lot more files once we did that. But we still can't execute scripts in the cart or search.

I've no idea what 'Subscription' is in PLESK but could it be related to this: https://support.plesk.com/hc/en-us/a...e-subscription

I would have thought you'd need to have perl support enabled to run perl but who knows?

One thing I have spotted is the cgi-bin folder appears twice when I login to FTP. It's in the base httpdocs folder alongside acatalog (although the cgi-bin folder is empty here) and it's also beneath the httpdocs docs folder and that one is full of scripts.

Do we think this could be the issue as to why the scripts are not being executed on the server? They should be being uploaded to the empty cgi-bin folder instead?

That doesn't sound right to me and is definitely worth investigating.

It could be down to this which would typically just be ../acatalog/

PS. I know with sellerdeck you can setup test sub-domains for testing but if you control your own web hosting then I find it easier to just use a separate test domain. The cost is pretty small and everything from the network setup to httaccess files seem more logical to me.

Hi All,

Thanks for all these assistance and recommendations I've given up with this migration. Whatever I seem to try doesn't seem to work and the hosting company say they don't support third party software. I thought that simply changing the server IP address in the hosting settings would mean it would move across without any issues as the server is Linux operating Plesk and is simply a spec upgrade, but it hasn't been the case.

Can anyone recommend a host that specialises in SellerDeck websites that I can put them in touch with? I've seen one or two posted on her but I'd like them to move to the most reputable if possible.

I think my hosting company Zen has been very helpful, but the guys at Sellerdeck (our apology to them) don't want to help because we haven't paid for cover anymore (mainly because their updates are delayed after delay) .... even we are a client since 2004. Best to decide on if you really want to go on with Sellerdeck first.....

Although Zen can't solve it, because according to them it's in the scripts, see the postings in 'Network settings fail on test but website still uploads and downloads orders'. So far we didn't get further as yet, however our site v16 does work - orders and payments do come in - so if the errors are only from our side and not for the shoppers its ok to us until we find a solution ..... we don't want to change this time of the year because it busy with shoppers.

If you decide you can't work with the error messages but want to remain with Sellerdeck but not upgrade the version, then check out Graphics.co.uk - Jonathan, tell him we referring you, he is very helpful and knowledge, and seems all Sellerdeck versions are working with his hosting company.

Its always frustrating to have hosting issues without support from the provider, hopefully this community can recommend hosting providers that meet your requirements.

If your client has a Cover contract, they are entitled to 'emergency hosting' so we'll be able to set them up on our hosting free of charge, quickly, and without a commitment to a contract. 30 days later we would provide a quote and you could decide if you wanted to stick with us or find an alternative.

Without Cover, we can offer monthly rolling contracts as a quick solution.

I'd say the top 3 options for specialist hosting a sellerdeck site are probably (in no particular order):

a) Sellerdeck - A good option for large companies wanting reliable specialist hosting and have a budget to suit.

b) One of the sellerdeck partners Such as elysium online run by Andrew Gosling (Goz here on the forum). Probably a good choice if you just want to hand the problem over to someone who knows sellerdeck inside out. Good value.

c) Host-it - A smaller company who have sellerdeck specific hosting and good, quick support. Cheaper and a good choice if you understand hosting and the occasional hiccup won't lose you your job.

PS. These days I almost feel embarrassed when I think about how little I pay for hosting. When I look at some of my other bills such as paypal and card processing fees it amazes me what good value a decent host is.
