Actinic cannot generate an unique order number

Getting the following error on website when customer presses confirm order.

An error occurred while attempting to generate a unique order number. Actinic ecommerce is unable to lock the counter file. Permission denied

Has anyone else experienced this or know how to solve this problem.

This may be due to some permissions problem on the server.Try a network test to see if any errors are returned.

I have tried a test and all ok, have sent our host copy of the above to see if they can help.
