    Compacting Database Problem

We have a problem with our 10.3 site, currently under development, the Actinic program files are on our the C drive and the site files on our shared (local) server.

We get the following message when compacting the database

There was a problem compacting the database
    .\\sbs2k8\Shared\Actinic v10\site1\ActinicCatalog.mdb with the database.
    .\\sbs2k8\Shared\Actinic v10\site1\ActinicCatalog.mdb
The reported error was: Drivers ConfigDSN, ConfigDriver, or ConfigTranslator failed please use explorer to investigate the problem.
Actinic will now close and must be restarted

I have tried repairing the data sources (odbc) but to no avail.

Our current V9 site is all on the c drive and works fine.

We are running Windows 7 but do not have Access

Any suggestions, before i try a re-install, or move the site to the c drive, gratefully received.

I get this too, it's an intermittent problem, one that is proving hard to fix. Switching off the network monitor in Kaspersky (if you have that installed) seems to improve it somewhat.

I have got this too on an XP machine using 10.03 with AVG not Kaspersky, on my Win7 "box" at home I have AVG and V10.03 and no problems compacting at all. Wierdness rules. Has anyone run an "anti-gremlin" scan on V10.03?

It may be worth asking Actinic support to check your database for errors. Sometimes glitches can creep into the database itself. There might be a bug in v10.0.3 to cause it, although there's nothing we have identified so far. There are one or two bugs in Access itself that can cause minor corruptions, or there could be an incompatibility with some other software or driver on your system. There are many possible causes, unfortunately.

If it's a problem in the database, our technical team can usually fix it, and often that will be the end of the matter. Tracking down the cause can be pretty difficult. But once fixed, you may well find the problem does not repeat.

          Hi Bruce.
I think mine is more of an installation problem as the compact runs fine on another machine with the same database as the one giving the errors (snapshot copy imported to a win 7 machine).
All machines have Acess 2007 installed but I can't see this as being the source of the problem otherwise it would manifest on all machines surely?

Same with me Steve, don't think its database, same snapshot works on one machine, not on the other, OS being the difference for me.

At some point I'm going to try a re-installation and see what happens. Being on an XP machine I know it's not due to UAC issues.
I will update as and when I have tried the re-installation.
Just a bit more on this:
I have V9 installed and running on this machine, which compacts the database fine- however V10.03 comes up with the error message..I wonder if there's a clue in there somewhere?
