Ask your ISP if they have any server error logs available. They usually show exactly what's wrong.

Actinic itself writes an error log but this is done by Perl so won't be operating. I looked at said Actinic error log and the last entry was on the 18th October. There's typically been an entry at least every few days (nothing to worry about there as it notes things like customers logging in invalidly). So it's possible that your site went down soon after the 18th.

Yes, I set everything as 755 just to make sure - all files and subdirectories of cgi-bin

"No changes have been made to the server either updates, security settings or anything like that."

Drop me a line. It seems almost certain to be a hosting issue. I'd be prepared to take a support snapshot (made in Help| Troubleshooting) and load it up to one of our hosting areas for you to confirm it is a hosting issue or not.

Thanks very much to everyone who gave advice. It is much appreciated.

It was a host (webhosting.uk.com) issue - in spite of denying any action/updates/changes for over 4 days, today they admitted that "The problem seems to be due to 2 versions of perl running on the vps which may be due to cpanel update. I have now set correct perl version & the site is working fine."

                    Funny that.

                    Glad it's sorted.
