Exporting Catalog V11 and Importing it into V9 Anybody ?

I looked at many posts, and I would need help to Export the Catalog V11 and Import the csv file it into V9. I don't need any design layaout or anything, just the whole section tree with products, and optionally the brochure pages and fragments.

    Any help appreciated.

Try exporting the catalog and adding a temporary column with a running number in it. You can use this to sort with later to get all rows into the correct order again.

Sort the columns by the header type and then copy and paste into another worksheet. In this worksheet you can delete all the columns that are not specific to the basic catalog data. Copy and replace the rows with these changes back into the main worksheet and repeat for each header type.

When finished re sort with the column added at the beginning and import. Fix the errors that occur and you should hopefully be very close to getting at least the basic data into v9.

      Thanks Duncan.

But I am not sure I got it all..

When you say "adding a column", you mean Vertically in the Excel sheet? (a bit puzzeled as it is a hierarchical file..)
And when you say "running number"..you mean 1, 2, 3. ...etc..? How do you achieve that automatically in Excel ? (The exported file has already 71000 lines!)

Then "Sort the columns by the header type", you mean using the sorting filters in Excel and click yes for expanding to other columns right ?

Then "Fix the errors that occur" you mean trying the import into the V9 and see what kind of error actinic will point to ?

Sorry for all these questions, but I am not used to do this..

I have noted as well that the export of a V11 starts with a line called Version: V11, while V9 is starting straight away with the headers..will I end up with extra field to delete to allow this "downgrade" ?

Would there be a quicker way to do this using the mdb catalog file, and replace any mention of the Version V11 for the V9 in the Catalg Version, section and product tables ?

Export Catalog then import Hierarchical csv in v9

Just create the site in v9 and import the Hierarchical csv. Remember to copy all the images and set the tax settings before importing.

            Patrick,

You can't just copy over the database because it will have changed between v9 and v11 0 they are not backwardly compatible. Todd suggestion should work and be nice and easy to do.

Many thanks for your help here..

But I still get a message : "There is a syntax error in the Header directive at line 12: The error reported is: invalid record name: OrderStatusMessage."

It seems that this field was not in V9, how can you tell Excel hierachical file to delete properly this field ? and will there be others when this one has been removed from the excel file ?

              Many thanks for your input.

                    Ooops..Sorry Duncan...

I found that out...to make a running number in excel :
Use the fonction =ROW() this will retur the number of the actual column..

                      Duncan,

I still am puzzled now as to how you "Sort the columns by the header type" as being in a hierachical fille, all the headers relate to kind of "unsorted" content in the cells below..so how do you instruct Excel to give you all the data related to a header ?

Has anyone ever asked why you want to do this as going backwards seems a strange move to most people

                          Hi Bodybits,

All you have to do to get a V9 file to import into V11 is to remove the first line of the V11 file (Version: 11) and remove the header line for orderstatusmessage. You can do this in notepad or any other simple editor.

                          Regards,

                            Thanks Jan,
but it seems it could work as It started importing ok, but it seems also that removing that order status message line is creating another problem as most of the catalog disappeared after a message that it founds "orphans" sections and therefore deleted them..?

                              Hi Chris,

The reason for doing this is that I want manage other shops on different computors (4 different computors, not on the same network), and I have all the versions of actinic to play with since V3!..I will not go up to the V3 but hope to be able to go down to V7 may be..
