    SEO errors

    Hello

I am using a SEO software toi analyse my sellerdeck site http://www.brilliantgems.co.uk

One of the warnings or errors is that there are too may <h1> tags on my site but I cant find them or understand why? I am wondering if its in the sellerdeck code?

The exact pages I tested are:

    http://www.brilliantgems.co.uk/acata...Jewellery.html
    http://www.brilliantgems.co.uk/acata..._Pendants.html and
    http://www.brilliantgems.co.uk/acata...y_Pendant.html

All 3 had exactlky the same errors

exact quote " Your page has too many H1 tags.
Too many heading tags on a page can make it hard for users to scan the content and determine where one topic ends and another begins. "

And is this really a big issue with Google etc ? that they will penalise my ranking?

    Best wishes

Your New Products, Best Sellers, and Product Sections are all using h1 tags. Being single product pages, you probably want your Product Name to be the only h1 tag.

HTML5 can have multiple h1 tags in certain circumstances, but not older versions of HTML. Having multiple ones dilutes its meaning, and since the product is what you want to showcase, that's what most people do.

      Hi

      Thanks for the answer...

How can I amend it such that oonly the showcase product has a h1 tag? I can see this in the sellerdeck settings or the code view either...?

      Best wishes

Code View. Personally, I've always had luck with making the "New Products" and such h3 tags, and the product an h1.
Just make sure you aren't messing it up in other areas and that the intended change doesn't have any side effects.

Well when I look in code view I cant find any <h1> or <H1> tags even if I right click and use the find feature on the page!

          Its weird?!

          Must be there somewhere!

          Any ideas?

          Cheers

Click on any of those sidebar headings, and then switch over to the code view, it should put you right there.

In the layout code for marketing lists you may need to click on "Click here to edit list layout settings".

That showed me the code page for those layouts but in neither new products or best sellers is there any sign of a <h1> tag and even when I use the right click find it comes up an empty search...

                    Any ideas?

Apparently I have too may <h1> tags and need to reduce them but cant find any!

Well that was hard to find ha ha thanks for that Pebleco!

So will it be just the New Products and Best sellers that have the ,h1> to amend? And is it correct what prsweeney has said that making these 2 catagories <h3> tags is a good idea?

                          Thanks again

Totally depends on what you want to emphasize to the search engines. The main thing I'd concern myself with is just making sure you have well-tuned h1 tags; all other heading tags are a little less important.
Like I said, I changed all of our headings like "Best Sellers" to h3's but it's certainly not the only way to do it, so your mileage might vary.

                              or

                              http://www.brilliantgems.co.uk/acata...y_Pendant.html

So weird and cant find any other tags...

                              Any ideas?
