Ignore the wizard - put "localhost" in the SMTP Server field and do the test. If it passes upload the site.

I was reseller with Webfusion for many years and I've come across a screenshot of Webfusion network settings for v7 - I haven't had to upload to a WF account for a year or so, but hopefully the account settings haven't changed, so here are some suggestions...

Try the Server host without 'ftp' in front, just 'dfordog.com'.

Leave 'Path from CGI-BIN to acatalog Directory as viewed by the FTP Server' blank.

Try ticking 'Use Passive FTP Transfers' (I used to recommend this to dial-up users!).

Are the SMTP username and password definitely correct for your main mailbox? (i.e. not forwarded aliases or secondary mailboxes).

This might all be hoplessly out of date, but from what you've said, it sounds like anything might be worth a try

        Hi,

I tried setting up a new mailbox. I set it up in my host control panel and then set up a corresponding account in Outlook which seems to work fine.

My host control panel said the username of the new mail box is pop.orders-4 and the server name is potassium.webfusion.co.uk so now my network setup for email looks like this

It went through OK previously (even if I didn't receive the email) but today I have tried again and am now getting an error message:

The computer you specified as your mail server is not a valid mail (SMTP) server. Check the computer name or address and try again. If it fails again, then it is possible, you were locked out by a firewall program, or you don't have network connection to this server.

          Thanks.

OK, I tried putting 'localhost' in SMTP Server instead

The Test ran through OK but I am still not actually receiving the email

I have already uploaded the store http://dfordog.com/acatalog/

You are right there... I will try anything.

Thanks for the help. I tried missing of the ftp part but no joy. I have also tried leaving the cgi path blank and ticking the ftp box previously. Tried again just in case but no luck.

I was interested in what you said about the mailbox. I wasn't using my primary mail box. I never use it and don't even have it set up in Outlook. Instead I was using extra (secondary?) ones. So I thought I would try what you say about using the primary mailbox instead. I thought I better set it up in Outlook first, yes... but it is failing. I can't send a test message. Oh crikey. So I have emailed Webfusion support to ask why I can't seem to set up my primary mailbox in Outlook. I mean, am I missing something? I have loads set up in Outlook and they are all fine.

I am getting a bit tired and confused now

If you don't get any luck with Webfusion support, and you're OK with letting me have your account details, I'm willing to have a crack at it from here. Don't expect a lightning-fast response, though, things are a bit hectic at present

Ohhhhh thank you very very much

I will send you anything you need. Is it safe by email? Just let me know what you need.

No point me waiting for Webfusion to reply. They reply quickly but it never seems to help.

That's an improvement, they used to take over 24 hours not to help <meeaow!>

                  I've emailed you.

I have 20+ sites on webfusion and they all work with "localhost" it would be worth checking that it is not your anti spam etc at your end blocking the emails.

I don't think I have any antispam in operation since all spam arrives and I filter it myself. Or am I talking cobblers

Out of interest though, do you use secondary webfusion mailboxes with Actinic? Everytime I make a new mailbox I have a username and password so I just use those, don't I? I can't see why that wouldn't work.

The test runs fine using localhost or potassium.webfusion.co.uk but either way I do not actually receive the email.

OMG, I just tried localhost and then potassium.webfusion.co.uk again and just got the Actinic test email. Hurray. Why it has suddenly decided to work though I do not know. I sat all day doing exactly that.

The wizard still doesn't work but you say I don't need it to, is that right? Should I not be concerned about it not working?

By using localhost you can ignore all these

                          Thats email for you

Ignore the wizard - its only an automatic way of setting the network settings, you have done this manually and uploaded so it works.

                            Yippeee, that sounds good then.

I only have one problem. I tried a test purchase and as the customer I received the order email but as the seller I received nothing... so I wouldn't know when orders came in.

I will have another fiddle and see if that is definitely the case.

You will only get an order notification after you have downloaded orders and then only one no matter how many orders have been taken by the site. I have been playing on the site and others so wait a few days do a download and then immediately do an order- it should work ok.

OK, well thank you very much for the help. I will put my head back in the manual
