    I: Re Unable to browse / preview site

    Hello Nadeem,

    As requested I attach a Support snapshot of my site. Nothing's changed. Basically Ctrl-A seems to generate a page, but displays nothing (used to display the page in V6). Ctrl-W or browse do nothing.

    I upgraded from v6 to V8 - could that make a difference. I was also using a CMS system before for the front-end, but now I'm using brochure pages. I was using Mozilla, but removed that and running IE6.
    Thanks

      trace file as requested

      Hello Nadeem,

      Attached is the trace file. I am getter an error message as well now, but only on Actinic, as far as I can see, when I preview. I have switched off the firewall incase that was causing a problem (zone alarm)

      Thanks

        Hi there

        After reviewing a couple of "CatalogTrace.txt" file, we may have found something. Please could people who have this problem do the following:

        1. Close Actinic
        2. Go into "Start | Run" and type in "Regedit.exe" to go into the registry
        3. Go to the following location "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Actinic\Catalog8\Original\InstallRoot"
        4. On the right hand side, you will see Default and the location of where the program should be located. Some of you have put in a lower case "c:", please could you change it to an upper case "C:", therefore it should be like "C:\Program Files\Actinic v8"

        Please could you try this.

        Kind Regards

          Hi Anthony, Also I have been checking in your snapshot that you had sent, and also seen a problem with it.

          I had wanted to see just the files rendered for the Design Preview which ought to be just 2 css files and P_index.html.

          The brochure page, P_SiteRoot_index.html contains several embedded HTML word documents first one starts with...

          Code:
          <html xmlns:v="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml"
          xmlns:o="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"
          xmlns:w="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:word"
          xmlns:dt="uuid:C2F41010-65B3-11d1-A29F-00AA00C14882"
          xmlns:b="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:publisher"
          xmlns="http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40">

          <head>
          <meta http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html; charset=windows-1252">
          <meta name=ProgId content=Word.Document>
          <meta name=Generator content="Microsoft Word 11">
          <meta name=Originator content="Microsoft Word 11">
          <link rel=File-List href="welcome_files/filelist.xml">
          <title>welcome</title>
          IE won't display these however Firefox does

          So you may want to check on that as well, just in case

          Kind Regards

            RE: Errors on browser display

            Hello Nadeem,

            I will try the regedit update this evening and let you know. I think the problem may relate to using Actinic with Firefox Mozilla ?. I downloaded the latest version and did a fresh install on another manchine I use with firefox and IE both installed. I used the evaulation license, and the default site data. No browse nor off-line preview functions worked.

            I repeated the same procedure on my work laptop, which uses only IE and it works ok.

            On the machine where I use my licensed copy of Actinic I removed firefox post Actinic upgrade, as I though this may be the source of the problem, but obviously removing Firefox does not resolve the problem, perhaps once you have installed it with Firefox already on the machine ?

            ....I may be jumping to conculsions, but it might be worth you retesting upgrades with Firefox install machines etc.
            Thanks

              Hi Anthony, Thanks for the information, However I use Firefox 1.5.0.7 (Which I think is the latest build) and Actinic works fine for me. Plus our other developers and Support use Firefox as standard on their v8.

              But will get to install v8 and firefox only on a new machine and see if there is any issue with that.

              Many thanks, but do try the fix, 2 people have already confirmed it has fixed their blank preview.

              Kind Regards

                is this fixed in 8.0.3 beta?

                here are 2 views of the same page, one from within actinic, the other is FF

                  Yes - basically IE doesn't cope if the 'Doctype' tag is not right at the top of the document. This was not happening in the Design tab in 8.00 or 8.0.2 because there would always be a <span> tag at the top of the document (which controls the dotted lines that go around the things you select).

                  8.0.3 now always puts the doctype first, so it should look better.

                    I've just installed 8.03 and my above post #22 still applies, ie local view in actinic is messed up, local view in browser is fine.

                      Hi Jo,

                      Please could you submit a support request for this, so it could be checked here, and maybe looked by the developers, they would need your snapshot

                      Kind Regards
