A number of issues threatens our use of Actinic

We have now come to the end of our trial period of Actinic V8.

At this moment in time I am not convinced it's doing the job.
We are not even trying to do anything special, just a very simple web shop using builtin and default settings.

    Some of the basic errors:

*On Update of the website pages are not being updated, so far the only way I can cure this is by doing a refresh website.

*For some bizarre reason there are still links to the Actinic trial site on the website e.g On the home page the links to login and products point to the Actinic trial site.

*https not working (https not even selected on payment and security).

*When on the more_info page clicking on the products link gives this address:
https://burns.writemedia.co.uk/cgi-b...talogbody.html which then gives a 404 error as do a load of others.

If anyone wants to have a look at the site it's at:

    http://burns.writemedia.co.uk/index.html

There are 4 days of the traial left and if these basic issues are not sorted then Actinic goes in the bin. It's just not doing what it says on the tin.

Boy, this is a big learning curve.....and YES I've got my crampons on!

    Hi,

Would suggest you go into the network settings, export this as a text file and then paste the content in this thread (removing the username and password) so that we can see whether this is your issue here.

Try changing the 'Path from CGI-BIN to acatalog folder (as viewed by the FTP Server) to
        ../acatalog/

Also, when I tried to enter your store I got a reference to an SSL certificate, but these settings have no reference to SSL. Have you had SSL turned on on your site before.

I really think you need to phone technical support and ask them to help you with the correct settings for your store. There's a 30-day money-back guarantee for the software (which is a way of extending your evaluation) and telephone technical support is available during that time.

*https not working (https not even selected on payment and security).
pages not being updated can sometimes be attributed to a firewall issue

https will only work if you have an ssl cert installed and you activate it within the software on payments and security tab the url https://burns.writemedia.co.uk does not have an SSL cert

additionally you may prefer to use the domain prefixed by www as I notice all your urls are without

We are currently not using SSL and it is not selected on payments.

We are currently under evaluation and do not have time to set up a new domain.

The fact that www is missing should have no effect on the website functionality.

Also I cannot get me head around the fact that there are still links to the Actinic trial site. As I understand it this would be affected by the network settings which, as you can see contain no reference to the trial site.

As well as that it's raining here and very miserable!!

When I looked at the domain it does not show any trials for actinic links, as the login and products link at the top stays within your domain, so maybe you are seeing cached stuff in your browser.

                Ok

To save confusion I am currently removing (via FTP Client) all directories and files on our test server.

I have, as Chris suggested changed the path to cgi (FTP) to ../cgi-bin

I will then do a complete new upload and see how it goes.

Bearing in mind I have following the user guides (inc advanced) very closely so I guess there could be some clarification in the guides required.

I'm not giving up yet. I do like the look and feel of Actinic as a user but it really does need to be foolproof as, once it is set up and running I don't want to be spending huge amounts of time on more development work.

Thanks for your continuing help, Actinic certainly knows how to look after it's potential customers.

                It's still raining

                  I hope you meant ../acatalog

I really do recommend contacting Actinic support - getting your site working for the first time on a web server is hard work - but you only have to do it once.

Err, yes Chris, sorry I did mean ../acatalog. This has solved a lot of initial problems, thanks Chris.

Right, the website is now new from an empty directory on the server.

Initially it appears that some things are now working.

BUT on the home page there are two links that still point to the Actinic trial website, Products and Login.

I shall be doing more testing but I will not be adjusting any settings, only content so that I can make a complete list off all issues as I go on.

From now on then Chris I'll contact support for advice on issues but these Tril site links really are bugging me!!

this is true, but I was just thinking about users expecting to find www in a URL. If this is simply a test domain then no it won't matter

See the trials link now you mention...

Try re-generating the best sellers and new products listing, as these have the old trials link in them, so might be connected, but also getting forbidden right now on other pages of the site.

                          Yes, it's just for testing.
