    Images coming and going

During preparations for launch of my site I have noticed that some images dont show. They show on my machine and the machine at home. I use another machine with the same web browser and Presto, some of my images vanish. These images are held in the same folder as all the others I am using and others display fine. Then if I look again the following day some that weren't, are and some aren't were. It is clearly something I have done, after all I do have the capacity to reduce the TV wall in a major store to blank screens just by conversing with the guy trying to sell them. I'm new to most of this and wondered if anyone had a similar experience when starting out. I have checked the image box in the product screen and they match apart from their individual id

I may be wrong but Actinic doesn't seem to like images that are not in the site1 folder.

That's what I thought, all of my images are in the same place, they are for the most part the same size and still some display and some don't. Reckon I should take the weekend off and come back to it with post weekend gusto on Monday. As I said it will be something I have done and I will likely feel a complete fool when I find out what it is I've done.

I have also just noticed that the images that display appear to be in

------\acatolog\--- while the images that don't display still have a reference to the original position in a folder on my hard drive.

The reason they dont show is that they are still on your hard drive:
                file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Jay.JAY-WPZ4ESAQJDN.000/My%20Documents/My%20Pictures/WEB%20IMAGES/Paper%20Bags%20%

You need to copy ALL images to the site1 folder.

I guess an " & " in the name of a folder that the images were kept in would kinda stuff things up a bit........wouldn't it ?
It also mentions that somewhere in the set up guide doesn't it ?

Yes - also images names should not have spaces use - or_

Having used a windows resize tool on many of these images I have figured out that a " (win CE) " in the image file name doesn't go down well either.

Sir I thank you for your help, I knew it would be my fault and you were right, many of the images in the products were pointed at the old image folder on my hard drive. If I can be of assistance in the future within my field of expertise do not hesitate to contact me. Your advice is much appreciated.

I don't think malcolm is saying don't use -_ his phrase is just badly worded

Although he did express a preferance for - over _ in some SEO debate a while ago.

To me the SEO benefit in discriminating between - and _ is miniscule. I certainly have'nt changed my image names.

The only thing to ensure you do is use one or the other so you can help the SE find the keywords in the imagename.
